I think the model number can help you more for finding the year of manufacture. I couldn't find anything on the serial number. Also, if you contact a Yamaha outboard dealer, they can help you.
the only other possible way is to get the engine serial number and the manufacturer site and contact the engineering section to see if there is a BOM ( bill of material) list to find what bike VIN number that engine serial number was installed in
On most bikes there is a frame number on the steering head of the frame when you turn steering to full lock to the left you should be able to see it? if you record this number an call your local dealer for the bike they will have data to confirm age year of manufacture
Contact an Authorized Yamaha Dealer for that sort of information. They will require the frame number for an accurate date of manufacture. Is it not registered then?

The engine number will not give you what you need. The VIN is the key. You will find the VIN number stamped into the center steering stem that the forks attach to. Call a Yamaha dealer with the VIN and they can tell you what year and model of bike you have.
Get the vin number off the front downtube that the steering triple tree mounts to. Call a Yamaha dealer with the vin # and they can tell the year, engine size and model of bike.
