Question about 2004 Harley Davidson FLSTC - FLSTCI Heritage Softail Classic
No, I don't think you're on the oil drain plug. Harley motorcycles use what we call a "dry sump" oil system. This means that the oil is not carried in the engine but rather in a remotely mounted tank. In a wet sump engine, the oil is in the bottom of the engine, like on a Honda or in your automobile.
On your Softail, find the oil tank. Now look for a hose that comes from the rear lower left side of the tank and goes down to the frame just below and behind the chrome end cover on our transmission on the right side of your bike. There is probably a clip on the frame that holds the hose and there is a plug in the end of the hose with a hose clamp on it. This is the oil drain hose. Loosen the clamp, remove the plug, and the oil will drain out of the tank. This is where it used to be. I'm not being sarcastic but I don't often work on the later models. I work mostly on the models made prior to the year 2000. I hope this helps.
