What grade oil goes my 1985 kawazaki klt 250 - 1981 kawasaki Z 250 C

It is is firing out of the carb and the exhaust, the timing must be off, but also slipping. Is the flywheel tight?

Hello Pam, the controllers on the Kawasaki, KLT 250 Prairie, 1983-1985 are suppose to be the same...i have never swapped a CDI controller on the older KZ 250's, so i can not advise if another unit would work. I did however locate a new replacement for your bike. Here is the link.

I had this atc new in 1985.No clutch needed just shift gears,for reverse to work shift to nuetral lift red lever up on gear box and shift up to put in reverse.I miss mine a lot ,grandfather bought it new for me and I sat there as he wrote the check for $1423.00 at midway honda kawasaki in chicago.These were only made in 1985 and very rare so dont sell it..

13.4 ounces in each one. Or, with the fork spring removed and the forks compressed all the way, the oil level should be 150 mm (5.91") from the top of the fork tube.

I would consult your local dealer or owners manual for the proper oil. The oil must be diesel rated and have the proper viscosity so that the bearings are lubricated as well as the piston skirts. If you live in a colder climate, a thinner grade of oil may be needed as to a summer grade.

probably find that the dog clutch on the end of the starter has given up the ghost,failing that,bmws are critical on the grade of oil used and if you have used a mineral rather than synthetic oil the dog clutch will be gummed up with deposits,sometimes a hot engine flush and new oil(synthetic)will fix it,hope this helps

you have to get a 3 way tee or weld a pipe together to get it to work thats what i did to mine and it works very well.
