I have a Sony STR-D965 receiver that has worked well for several years. I opened it up and found that two of the four fuses located on the PCB attached to the transformer had blown (there are two 4 amp and two 8 amp fuses. The 8 amp ones blew). I replaced the fuses and powered it up with no peripherals attached. The same fuses blew again. Does anyone know if this is a common problem with this receiver? If so, please point me in the right direction. Any help appreciated !

I have a SONY str-de715 receiver and the display does not work. I've tried to increase the brightness and replaced the fuses. Do you have any other DIY suggestions that would be helpful?

Does the rest of the receiver work? Do you get audio output? If not, it could be the main power transformer. There is a thermal fuse buried in the core that if this opens, it will cause the unit to not power up completely.

The power button broke off

Best way to fix this is to take off the board that is over the power button and hot glue the button back in place. Only apply glue to the side of the button where it hinges - the other side needs to move freely or it won't contact the switch and operate correctly.

Sony STR-D965 display flashes protector. how do i fix?

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

I have Sony STR DE845 receiver and comcast red button dvr remote. Anyone know the code to have the comcast remote control the sony?

If you consult the card that came with the remote, you will find several codes for "Sony". You will need to experiment with each code until you find one that will power the receiver on and off. Then you will have control of the receiver. If you don't have the card, then go to the web site and download a copy in PDF format from there. I have a lot of Sony stuff, and I have found that the codes varry according to the year the equipment was made and its function.

Main pcb for sony strde 897

PartStore (www.partstore.com) has parts for this receiver. The parts are usually backordered so they will take a few weeks to ship. As for a free service manual, I have searched the internet and could not locate one. Good luck.

Sony STR-D565 fuse continues to blow

You could have a shorted winding in the power transformer. The diodes in the power supply can be shorted. Filter capacitors can short and send power to ground which will blow the fuse.

Led display goes dead

I suspect intermittent 31V supply, filament supply or bad connections on fluorescent display.
Check Q801 31V reg , R802, zener on base of Q801 located on DC board. Inspect all boards for bad solder joints, reflow and tighten pcb grounding screws.
