I have a Snapper rider that I bought in 1999. Yesterday I used it fine, shut it down for about a half hour then tried to start it and now it just cranks away. It is backfiring a little through the carb, not too much, so I know it is getting spark. I also know it is getting fuel because I can smell it starting to flood after cranking for too long. I tried again to start it today and it still won't start. I am guessing maybe the neutral switch if it has one, (under the seat??). Or something electrical for sure. Thanks for your help. Gene
Gene, if it is getting spark as you say, it is not "the neutral switch if it has one, (under the seat??). Or something electrical for sure"
I would be more inclined to think along the lines of a leaking valve, most likely the exhaust valve.
You don't give any information about the engine so it isn't possible to tell you anything specific about it.
If it is an OHV engine though, it could be as simple as removing the valve cover and adjusting the rocker arms to get the proper clearance
