Getting a smoke test is the right direction to go in. The computer vents the gas tank to the vapor canister while the engine is running. It also pressure tests the system for leaks. Some where between the gas tank and the vapor canister there may be a leaking hose or valve. Or it could be the gasket on top of the tank where the pump assembly went in. The gas cap could have been a source for the leak, the other things are not involved.
I would recommend that you check to see if you are getting spark from the coil/coil packs. If this is not the issue, then you may be looking at a timing problem.
i dont think its rev box.(rev box just keeps engine from reving over a certain rpm) could be bad gas or water in gas, also have you checked those valve clearances lately?? 0.003--0.004 on filler gage
I would check the spark plugs. Take a spare spark plug that is known to be good and unplug the wire from the plug that is in the head and put the spare plug in and put it against the head to make a ground and try starting it to see if you have any spark. If you are not then test at the coil with a voltage meter set on 12 volt and try again to see if you have voltage to the coil. If there is no voltage to the coil then you will need to test the stater.
had a problem with a grand prix like that once, was the fuel filter, and injectors, all needed replaced, and it only had 89,000 miles. Would check fuel filter first. Is it possible you got some bad gas??
