Sounds like a bad display. You can get replacement displays here http://www.ifixit.com/iPod-Parts/iPod-Nano-Gen-2-Color-Display/IF199-000

Press and hold the "Menu" button and the "Play/Pause" button together if using an iPod Touch. Press and hold the "Menu" button and the "OK" button together if using an older iPod. Continue holding the buttons together until the screen flashes and then displays the iPod name and the Apple logo. Release the buttons. Wait as the iPod resets itself and turns itself back on. Leave the iPod connected to the USB connector so that it can fully charge the battery. Remove the iPod from the USB connector. Navigate to a song using the menu selection and play some music
what you need to do is to reset the program if that is through
but you can not be displaying the video click on your ipod and the same time going to the menu or scroll out any other function the program is to be operate one after the order
please note if you persist to operate the it with force it will cost damage on the panel .
Try going in itunes, right clicking on the song, and click create AAC version. The song may be in the wrong format which is why it won't finish playing it. Hope this helps!
does it show in itunes .... there are certain software's that help in backing up ipod.... otherwise you will have to restore the ipod or upgrade it ....
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
A few things to try... Get another ipod and back up (using the menu button) to the first menu list you can,( should show the Music, Movies, ect list) and then do the same to your broken ipod. Follow the good ipod with the broken ipod and open a song. (just to clarify, you are using the good ipod to know what to press in the broken ipod because you can't see the screen). Now use your headphones to see if it is playing. If it works, your LCD is dead or depixelated. A screen replacement is necessary. You can find one on eBay for around $25 or someone to do it for you possibly on Craigslist.
If this doesn't work and it doesn't sync right to your computer then *********** board may be the culprite. Unfortunately this is the second most expensive part to replace. If you don't want to deal with it sell it on eBay/craigslist and put the money towards a new one.
try reformatting it. but if you still want to save it everything in your ipod, try to check out your lcd.. its better to see just all the lines than having problems with the drive itself. but i hope it still works and can play your songs, because it's kinda more cheaper if the problem is only the lcd :)
I have had a problem similar to this recently though my ipod is always white. The white screen error or otherwise known as
"white screen of death" is caused by the lcd color screen on the ipod
itself. That is why its functions still work but the screen does not.
Once you replace the color screen it will be as good as new.
