Yamaha Power Valve System

I do have Yamaha DT 200R. and my problem that YPVS (Yamaha Power Valve System) does not work. Do I need a battery in order for it to work?
I recently changed the piston, what is the proper piston position and YPVS position?

Yes you do need a battery, the best position for thr power valve is half open, then once its started turn it either open for bottom end power or closed for top end,i think that right it might be the other way round ant quite remember, but half open should be best for it to start
