Drive belt installation on kawasaki drifter 440 (snowmobile)

I am trying to get an approx. 1980 Kawasaki Drifter 440 going that has been sitting around for a few years. The engine runs but the belt driving the tread is too loose and the power isn't getting from the motor to the tread. The old belt was ruined so I put a new one on but can't get it to tighten. Any ideas?

The Belt has the same number on it as the one that was previously there. I watch the engine spinning and the belt just sits there with the wheel spinning inside it. I wonder if the tread is having trouble moving, but I can move it by manually turning the wheel that the belt should be turning

Be sure of the right size - the rear wheel should be enough play to adjust

I lost my manual from my Kawasaki Drifter 800 and want to know where to find the battery and how to replace it. Thanks a lot, Peter

You have to remove the seat and its under there, make sure you get the correct battery when replacing it, it takes a maintanance free battery, you should probably go to a Kawasaki dealer and get one.

Does anyone know if a Drifter 1500 tank will fit a Drifter 800? Thanks!

I am not positive, but I know the bikes have different frames. As a rule of thumb, Kaw will make slight changes so the parts will not interchange. You can go to ronayers.com and look up the microfiche on both bikes to see if the tank part numbers are the same.
