hi Sam. There are only five species of montremes in the world: four species of echidna and the duck-billed platypus. The short-beaked echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus) is the only species in its genus. The other genus in the family, Zaglossus (the long-beaked echidnas), contains only three species.
hi Sam.
not sure if this is what you are asking.
There are only five species of montremes in the world: four species of echidna and the duck-billed platypus. The short-beaked echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus) is the only species in its genus. The other genus in the family, Zaglossus (the long-beaked echidnas), contains only three species.
When a new species form by geographic isolation, it is called geographical speciation or allopatric speciation. Geographical isolation is a physical separation which prevents gene flow between distinct populations. The populations on three land masses from this example, will eventually diverge from individuals of the single species that migrated to those land masses. The members of the populations, which once belonged to the same species, will no longer be able to mate and produce offspring. Eventually, the formation of new species will occur, in this example three new species on three land masses from the ancestral Adansonia species.
It looks like a Yellow Rat Snake, the picture is a bit far out to be positive but the gold color with thin black stripes is characteristic of the species. Hopefully this helps. Best regards.
