Question about 2000 Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic

Fuel is leaking from under my 1987 XV1100 virago and front cylinder is not firing but does have spark. Any recommendations on where the fuel leak under the engine is coming from?

Check the car to front cylinder hose it may have cracked and is leaking the petrol, thus not enough fuel in the front cylinder = no firing !

Virago 535 rear cylinder running very hot


Hi, Emmett I'm assuming the front cylinder is cold you need "FIVE" things in order for a cylinder to run properly:
1. FUEL: in order to validate your not getting fuel spray some starting fluid into the air cleaner and hit the starter button, if it fires up and runs for a few seconds then you know you have a fuel delivery issue.
2. SPARK: remove the spark plug and with it connected to the spark plug cable ground the threads to something metal you should see a bluish white spark if not you have a faulty spark plug, spark plug cable, ignition coil, condenser, CKP, ECM, sensor or the wiring in between.
3. COMPRESSION: you must have at least 80-100 PSI for most bikes if not perform a leak down test you may have a burnt or bent valve or hole in the piston or broken rings.
4. CAM TIMING: confirm your timing marks are aligned to see if the cam chain or adjuster are worn out and the chain has skipped a couple teeth.
5. IGNITION TIMING: on older bikes check to see if your points have not closed up, timing plate has not become loose and confirm with a timing light for proper retard and advance functions, on newer bikes where timing is controlled by an ECM and is nonadjustable check you CKP, TPS, MAP, O2, sensor or it's counterpart for integrity.

1986 Yamaha xv750 virago acts like running on one cylinder at times


Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
2. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Spark plugs in bad condition or partially fouled.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition and leaking check for spark leakage in the dark
5. Spark plug gap too close or too wide.
6. Faulty ignition coil, module, and or sensor.
7. Loose, dirty, or corroded ignition module connector at crankcase.
8. Faulty CKP or CMP, MAP, ETS, ATS, TPS, O2 sensor.
9. Dirty air filter.
10. Intake air leak.
11. Water, dirt, or rust in the fuel system, carburetor and/or filter.
12. Old dead or bad fuel.
13. Fuel tank vent system plugged or carburetor vent line closed off.
14. Vacuum line from intake manifold to fuel valve is broken, cracked, pinched, or missing.
15. Carburetor controls misadjusted.
16. Damaged carburetor.
17. Incorrect valve timing.
18. Weak or broken valve springs.
19. Damaged intake or exhaust valve.

Turns but does not start


There are so many things! Firstly check spark to the plugs and fuel to the system and the cylinders. Then check timing. After that it gets complicated!

1987 nissian maxima The car is getting way to much fuel replaced the egr,fuel pressure reg,spark plugs and wire, check fuel pressure,checked for vac leak


engine miss caused by many things,weak ignition from bad ignition coil, ignition timing off if you have high mileage engine low compression from worn burned valves.could have something minor like stopped up air filter, clogged dirty fuel injectors, through the years i have seen many things cause engine to miss.

My wife's 1995 Virago 535 starts fine and runs well until it gets hot. It then seems to only fire on one cylinder and if you keep riding, it will intermittently fire on both cylinders and speed up.

Number six cylinder misfire, has spark, fuel & compression


check for an intake manifold vacuum leak on the number six intake runner. It may be getting fuel, but the mixture is too lean to fire with the air leak.

Are you sure the cylinder is getting fuel? The injector may be firing but could be plugged up. The injector could also be leaking---dripping fuel when it should be off. This will cause a rich misfire.

Engine is not getting fuel to rear cylinder


Check your carb floats. Had similar problem and that's what it was.

To me it sounds like the coil is breaking down and not working at higher RPM's. You can take them off and have them tested at a service shop.
