The main difference is the non-lead version has hardened valves and seats in the cylinder head and a catalytic converter in the exhaust. You may be able to obtain a later head that fits this engine. The converter is an easy splice-in by cutting out a section of the exhaust header pipe and fitting suitable connectors. If you need to pass emission regulations, then it gets more complicated.

A 1976 is already engenered for unleaded fuel

    all 1976 model cars and trucks have hardened valve seats in stalled so they can burn unleaded, am a smog tech and know this for sure, so any money you spent will be for parts your engine already has, so why the poor rating??

Can 94 jetta run on leaded or unleaded petrol

It is best to run this engine on unleaded petrol. A high grade unleaded will give you extra performance and cause no damage. Leaded fuel was designed for cars made in the 60's to 80's that had used softer materials in their cylinder heads, leaded fuel pro-longed cylinder head life and reduced pre-ignition. Unleaded fuels are a cleaner, safer fuel to use.

What petrol should i use in my 1989 citi sport golf? Lead replacement or unleaded fuel? Thanks

Unleaded is recommended for this car but it is compatible with LRP since it has no catalytic converter.
I am asuming you are in South Africa? Have a look at the NAAMSA fuel compatibility database.

I need to know what smog equipment the 1976 ford F250 had on it to pass the Ca smog requirements

None. Yes I said it right, None. Belive it or not in 1976 trucks were not required converters, air pumps and could run on leaded or unleaded gas. Man I've been doing this too long and I'm getting old.

Unleaded fuel

Hi,

Am afraid nothing much you can do since you have to make do with what is locally available. However, a couple of things you can keep in mind:
1. Using leaded fuel with a car intended to use unleaded fuel would destroy your car's catalytic converter faster than normal wear and tear;
2. At times unleaded would be available, pls use as much as possible to help clean/remove the lead additive, tetraethyllead that will cover some soft engine parts with the lead-containing material;
3. you may have to tune your engine's timing to compensate for the leaded fuel.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
