Question about 1970 kawasaki Mach III H 1A
I have my friends 2004 Polaris Sportsman anniversary edition. The problem is that when I turn the key, the speedometer lights up but the gauge blinks and the battery signal keeps flashing. I pull start it and its starts one pull and idle for 15-20 seconds and then just shuts down, the lights go out on the ignition, and then they come back on once it quits. Also, if you try giving it extra throttle at all, it just shuts right down. You can give it throttle right as you pull start it and it revs up for 2 seconds and then just shuts off again. Then you try to pull start it again and it doesnt start. If you turn the key off then back on again and pull start it the whole procedure starts again, it idles for 15-20 seconds and shuts off again. I'm not a Polaris guy, dont know much about them, so any help is appreciated. I believe the battery just needs to be charged. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance, Jon.
Sounds like the battery may have a bad cell. The reason it quits dying is that there isn't enough juice in the battery to fire the plugs. On older pull start vehicles the stator put out the power to run the coils. On atv's with batteries, the power output is sent to the battery, and then to everything else. If the battery is bad or just dead, it eats up the current and leaves nothing to run the motor. The dash lights go out because it completely drains all current until even those lights go out. Once the motor quits runnung, there is enough current to get those lights back on again. Hope this helps...
