Should read 13.5 or above no more then 16 volts

Check gages means that one of the gages is reading an abnormal reading, like hot engine oil pressure issues, charging system voltage, pay attention next time it happens to the readings on the gages for something out of the normal

What is a normal reading for the oil gage on a 1998 olds bravada?


Below 40, mine sits at about 25-30 at idle, but shoots right back up after gas pedal is applied.

I have a 01 flht the volt meter reads at 11 volt a idle when I bring the Rpms up around 2 thousand the voltage gage reads at 14 cleaned all the conections had the battery checked it was fine any...


Whenever your rpms increase, so will the voltage out of your regulator. With the bigger bikes, they draw a lot of power at idle the regulator/stator wont charge the battery but rather keep everything else running during idle. Once your out of idle, then the stator sends more to the regulator which will then send more to the battery for charging (hence the more Voltage you are seeing). Hope this helps!

I have a 2001 Jeep grand cherekee Laredo.. both the oil pressure Gage and the temperature Gage drops down while idling or stopped at a stop light or sign.. what do I need to fix? And how expensive is it...


Have the alternator output checked at idle and if the idle is too low incrtease it to spec idle revs. It appears that the voltage in you electrical system is too low for the gauges Check when at the lights take you foot of the brake and put tranny out of gear and see if there is a difference

Have either autozone or auto discount...depending on your location, they will check it for free an tell you what the problem is.. they can reset it..however it will continue to come on until the problem is resovled

My trailblazer has a idling problem, the battery gage is dropping when sitting at lights etc.thought it was altenator but changed it out still having the problem when it is sitting still it is idling to...


Very low idle will cause a very low voltage output from alternator, so nothing unusual about that. At low idle the truck is basically drawing from the battery, not the alternator. As soon as you cure the idle problem, the alternator gauge reading will return to normal.

What is the check gauges light


CHECK GAGES light (1) indicates a potential engine failure(low oil pressure, low coolant, coolant overheating) has occurred.
· Check gages and shut down engine. Gages should read as follows: Oil pressure 5 to 10 psi (34 to 69 kPa) at idle; Water Temp gage below 230 degrees (110 C).
· Check engine oil level (Para 2-11) if OIL PRESS gage indicates low reading. Check coolant level (Para 2-11) if Water Temp gage indicates high reading. Notify Unit Maintenance if levels are low.

If CHECK ENGINE light (2) is on, check engine oil pressure gage (3) and water temperature gage (4). If both indicate normal, proceed with mission and then notify Unit Maintenance. If either one does not indicate normal, stop engine immediately and notify Unit Maintenance

Intermittent: car will not accelerate when cold. No diagnostic code


1. Inspect the 2 wire harness for the 7x Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor in the rear of the block.

2. Wiggle tug test the harness and inspect the harness for being melted from the exhaust manifold. Tests/Procedures: 1. Verify fuel pressure climbs to over 40 PSI during cranking and reads about 35-40 PSI at idle. Potential Causes: Insufficient Fuel Pressure
Tech Tips: The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will idle the engine at a normal speed when the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) voltage returns to the learned base idle value. This is also called 0% throttle angle. If this throttle angle is 1% or more at idle, the PCM will assume the engine is actually off idle and raise the engine speed to prevent a deceleration stall. Note that another sensor using the same 5 volt reference as the TPS can momentarily glitch the reference voltage low. This will cause the TPS to send a lower base idle voltage to the PCM, which the PCM quickly records as the new learned base idle voltage. When the reference voltage returns to 5 volts, the base TPS signal voltage increases to it's previous value. The PCM now interprets this as being off idle. This will cause the throttle angle to increase to 1% (or more) and idle the engine at a fast speed

Volt gage drops when not accelerating, replaced battery and altenator, its running worse now


What are the voltage readings?
Voltage may drop when idling and a larger voltage drop can be present when a large load (amp draw)is present on the alt.
A low charged battery is a large load.
Operating accessories is a large load.
A slow spinning (idling) alt will not put out it's max output.
This would be normal.

We like to see.....above 12.7V at idle....max 15V.......
.......and a min of 13.5V to a max of 15V at higher engine speed.
If you are with-in this.......don't worry about it.

Can you tell me what p0463 code means on my 2005 Liberty


p0463 is a self diagnostic code that is for the fuel gage sending unit located inside the fuel tank if your fuel gage is reading empty just after you filled it then that verify's the code is correct you have a bad sending unit
