Question about 1997 kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja
Sounds like a problem with the starter motor. You can jump start a bike without a starter motor. (if thats what you meant by push start). I had a simaliar problem. It sounds like a loud ticking when starter button pushed, I changed the bushes in the starter motor, and it fired up 1st time. Check that first (you will need new o-rings if you take the starter out and appart!)

Check the battery ..does it have full charge at 12volts plus?
