What would make a trans squeal while driving down the road?


You don't say, Front or rear wheel drive. First check oil level, On rear wheel drive check the thrower plate on the tail shaft at the diff end is not bent and rubbing on the seal, A dry oil seal can make this noise.so can the U/Joints. on front wheel drive , check the cv joints , dry oil seals , the drive shaft inner cv joints have a thrower plate that may be bent. worn or binding brakes can make this noise also.

05 malibu leaking oil from rear of engine


This may be from excessive pressure in the sump from blow-by from the compression process . It is from a blocked PCV valve that is not equalising that pressure. I have also known oil leaks to happen because the rear main bearing cap is leaking oil past the join around the bolts (loose) or no sealing compound used in assembling the rear main bearing.. I would look at the PCV valve as it is the cheapest test first.. Check that the oil is not coming from the front gear box seal or torque converter seal.

have you looked at the tires- if they are wore down the wear bars-little bands of rubber that cross the grooves in tread will be exposed and the noise is your warning to get new tires soon

If you are talking oil and or trans then those tubes are located to the left and right rear of the engine as you face the front of the engine, Trans is to the left rear and oil to the front or right side of the engine, Keep in mind that if you have a front wheel drive engine then the front of that engine is facing the passengers side wheel well or the right front tire of the car.

1988fxstc. Oil is blowing out of what looks like a oil tank vent hose that ends down by the rear tire. This is not the drain hose, but looks like a venting hose that is open near the rear tire. Anyone...


Without seeing the bike, I would guess that this is the crankcase vent. Originally, the crankcase vent tube came up from behind the oil pump and went to the backside of the air filter. A lot of owners changed the routing of this hose due to oil being blown into the air filter. They simply remove the metal part of the tube and replaced it with a short open ended hose running back and ending just forward of the rear tire.

As for the oil blowing out of the tube, it depends on how much oil blows out of the tube. If it's just a mist that will sometimes coalese into a droplet, this is about normal. But, if it's a steady drip or flowing oil, this is not right.

If the mist is heavy, this could be caused by excessive blowby on the rings creating high crankcase pressures. The use of synthetic oil should not increase the blowby unless the rings are in poor shape, then it will. The use of synthetic oil seems to aggrevate any minor leak turning it into a much larger leak.

If the oil is coming out in a steady stream or pumping the oil out of the engine, you proabably have sheared a key in the scavenge gears of the oil pump and it's not pumping the oil back into the oil tank.

Now there is a vent hose on the oil tank but it should be routed to a fitting on the crankcase that is located just above and slightly behind the top of the oil pump.

Sounds like coolant, Cars use a red coolant now days. The only other red is trans fluid.

Need to tow a 1993 S10 Blazer w/ electronic 2/4 WD control - NO battery - with low/no trans fluid. Will the vehicle be in true neutral without battery or will the trans get rotation and risk of seizing?


yes being elctronic no power = 2wd But if your putting on a wrecker or dolly rear tires need to be off ground and there no need to put tranny in neutral
in case of towing with rear tires on ground drive shaft needs to be removed because even in neutral gears in tranny will still turn but there be no oil circulating
This is true for all cars and trucks 2wd or 4wd
but on front wheel drive it front wheels u need to worry about

Just put new stater ,hub & voltage reg. on about a week later lost all power, noticed pos. post melted. plus oil on back tire, was told it was the trans blow by ?


You have two issues here, the first is your voltage regulator is bad, was bad, and or wired up wrong. Hence the MELTED posted, this is really bad. The second issue is oil on back tire. Do a little work to try and find where the oil is coming from? My bet is if the thing didn't have oil on it before the hub & stator replacement....then maybe you might not have used a new gasket? Find where the oil is coming from first then you cn address how to fix.

Rear main seal needs to be replaced,leaking oil from where trans. joins to motor need a step by step manual pics would be very helpful.


if its one piece round seal must pull trans if 2 piece drop pan good luck how many miles may have bad blow by check pcv valve

2000 gmc both rear tire oil leakage.


You are correct, it's not brake fluid. Check the level in your rear axle, it sounds like you have bad seals in the axles allowing the rear differential gear oil to leak inside the brake drums.
This is a heavy weight oil, 80 or 90 weight. This leakage will ruin your brake pads, and if enough leaks out, your rear differential will blow. The seals aren't expensive, but it's a lot of labor to pull everything apart to get at the seals, plus new rear brakes. My Ford ( and I'm sure your GMC) require removal of the rear axles to change the seals. Good Luck! countrycurt0
