Question about 2000 Harley Davidson XL 1200 S Sportster Sport

1 Answer

2.8 EFI toyota crown dohc idling roughly and the no 4 plug only is wet fouled but it seems to be fuel instead of oil. Have replaced plugs, ht leads and cleaned the aiv. She hesitates first then revs up but used to run great on the same timing setting etc, this is unchanged. Is it possibly a sticky valve because when it revs up it pops as if it is backfiring and it seems to be back through the efi intake ? Also new fuel filter and filter on fuel pump has been cleaned/replaced.

Try your fuel injector on No. 4 cylinder. It may be leaking or stuck open. Make sure you didn't cross the plug wires when you replaced them. Plug wires installed on the wrong plug or coil terminal will cause this problem.

My 2000 pathfinder is rough starting intermittantly and showing code P0304 cylinder #4 misfire. Had new plugs & wires replaced 6 months ago. what could be causing misfire?

Could be several things, such as leaky fuel injector flooding cylinder after shutdown, or oil fouling plug due to bad valve guide seal of broken piston ring. Install brand new plug, run about 20 miles, let engine get cold overnight, remove plug to red is it wet with gas or oil sooty.

My 94 Toyota Camry 4 cyl is running really rough and stalling out once the engine warms up

1. Error Code 24. Intake Air Temperature Sensor.
Solution:
Check the following:
- IAT Connector and wiring.
- Intake Air Temperature Sensor.
- Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor.
- ECM.
2. Rough Idling when the engine is hot.
The following are the reasons due to which the engine can perform bad when it is hot.
- Fuel pump control circuit.
- Fuel pump pressure.
- Fuel injectors.
- Non Return Valve clogged, located on the lower side of car chassis above the fuel tank.
- Engine compression, valve clearance, spark plugs.

Scott, 95 GMC 5.7L keeps fouling plugs

Hi Dale,

Several factors can contribute to spark plug fouling:

- The air/fuel ratio may be too rich as a result of incorrect carburetor adjustment or a poorly performing fuel injection system.
- Worn piston rings or valve seals may allow too much oil to leak into the combustion chamber, leading to oil fouling.
- The ignition system may not be performing properly.
- Prolonged idling or continuous low-speed driving may keep the spark plug from reaching its optimum operating temperature. Using too cold a spark plug can lead to the same problem.
- A dirty air cleaner can create a too-rich condition which can lead to fouling.

Have each of the above checked and corrected.

Fuel, oil and carbon fouling can all be the result of different causes but, once a spark plug is fouled, it will not provide adequate voltage to the firing tip and that cylinder will not fire properly.

In many cases, the spark plug cannot be cleaned sufficiently to restore normal operation. Hence, I always recommend that a plug be replace, once it becomes fouled.

Cheers,

Scott

Engine runs rough

Rough engine running is an indication of many things, which could be one or more of the following:
  • fouled fuel
  • dirty fuel line/filters
  • dirty or NO engine oil
  • dirty intake manifold/throttle body
  • faulty spark plugs [for petrol/gasoline]
  • incorrect engine timing
  • faulty ECU [for EFI engines]
  • faulty idle-up controller [rough idling with a/c engaged]
This is a broad answer to your engine symptom, but it is always best to have this checked by a qualified engine mechanic.
Hope this helps.

Running rough

check spark plugs, if one or more damaged this will explain rough running, and the smell of unburnt fuel, while you have plugs out give them a good clean. if they are wet with fuel then they are not sparking, wipe with soft cloth. to check if plug is sparking, take one out, leave it in the HT lead, get someone to hold it against the top of engine block and turn over engine. WARNING: HT LEADS CARRY A BIG CHARGE DO NOT HOLD LEAD WITH BARE HAND, USE SOMETHING NON CONDUCTIVE TO HOLD IT DOWN WITH ie, A BIT OF WOOD. if it sparks, its fine, put it back in, and remove another, and repeat the procedure and so on.
