Problem is when you pulled it out you droped a lifter behind a cam lob. Now you need to remove the push rods and raise the lifters to push te cam back in. Easy way is to remove the 4 tube covers and cut your push rods with bolt cutters and replace with adjustable push rods. Other wise you need to take the top end off and raise the push rods up. If you don't know what your doing its not for the faint of heart. If you take the top end off you will need new gasket kit for both jugs etc. I would just go with adjustable pushrods it saves time and money in the long run.

If you removed the bolts and pried the cover off, you have made a major mistake. You probably got it to move out about a half inch or so and now you can't get it off or back on. This is a complicated job that required the disassembly of the rocker boxes on down. I can help you do the job but it is not for the faint hearted and it is too complicated to be done here. If you want to try to repair the bike yourself, please get in contact with me off-forum. My e-mail address is wd4ity@bellsouth.net.

Leaking oil from primary cover, I road my bike to work is it safe to ride it home . I checked the engine oil it's still full . and how hard is it to change this cover?

All old harleys leaked oil, so its no big deal. First try tightening all bolts to primary cover, they should be allen head, so you will need a allen wrench of correct size. To change gasket you will first need to remove floorboard to primary bolts, then all the allen bolts. Put a pan under to catch oil. scrape old gasket off and install new gasket with a small bit of rtv to hold it in place. Put everything back together.

How do i replace the head gasket on my Suzuki LS650

To replace the head gasket disconnect the battery, remove the tank, remove the rocker cover. Manually turn the crank shaft until the engine is on top dead center compression stroke and the lines on the cam shaft gears are even with the top of the cylinder head. At that point evenly loosen the bolts that hold the cam shaft. Do one cam shaft at a time. Before you remove the second cam shaft tie a piece of wire to the cam chain then let the chain fall into the hole after removing the second cam. Loosen the carburator mounts and slide the carburators back so they are free of the engine. Now you can evenly loosen the head bolts and then remove the head. Check the head and cylinder for signs of warping or why the gasket needs to be changed. When you replace the head gasket make sure the gasket fits over the guide pins. Reassembly is essentially reverse of the disassembly. After you get the head torqued to specs, you will be glad you fought that wire attached to the cam chain when you start to install the cams. Make sure each cam goes back from where you took it from and the lines line up like they were before you took them out. Don't forget to install a new gasket on the rocker box.

I have fuel in crank case in 1996 road king .took off cam cap and oil and gas came out. gasket was leaking. also gas and oil coming out of carbruator.

Usually when you find gasoline in your crankcase it's because your carburator is leaking fuel into the cylinder heads. From there it goes into the cylinders on top of the pistons. Down past the rings into the crankcase. If enough gasoline goes in there, it will go past the sprocket shaft seal and into the primary case as well.

This is normally caused by a bit of trash getting under the float valve in the carburator. But, on a 1996 model, there is supposed to be a vacuum operated petcock. The petcock is supposed to close whenever there is no vacuum on it that is supplied from the intake manifold. Either the petcock has been changed, which is not unusual since the petcocks were quite troublesome, or it is not working properly.

First, you need to clean out the carb. and get any trash out from under the float valve. Remove the carb from the engine. Take the float bowl off the bottom of the carb. Pull the pin out that holds the floats and remove them and the float needle valve. Blow compressed air through the fuel inlet fitting to clean any trash out of the fuel valve seat. Inspect the needle valve for damage, replace if necessary. Reassemble and reinstall the carburator. Check for proper operation prior to starting the engine.

With the carb cleaned, you can install either an aftermarket manual petcock (Pingel) or a Harley petcock for a 1994 or prior model. These are manual petcocks. When you're not riding your bike, turn the petcock to the "OFF" position. Also, install a fuel filter in your fuel line between the tank and the carb. Get one of the good ones with the scintered metal filters in it.

Change your oil and filter. Check your primary oil as well. Change it if contaminated with gasoline. Before you reinstall your air filter, connect the fuel line to the carb and turn the gas on. Closely watch the inside of the carb throat to see if fuel starts to "bubble up" into the throat of the carb. This usually takes a few minutes so be patient. If it does, you need to replace the float valve needle with a new one and check the float setting. If it doesn't "bubble up" you're good to go. Then, don't forget to turn your petcock to the "OFF" position when you quit riding the bike.
