My Volvo S70 sat unused for nearly a year. Now when I put it in drive & step on the gas, it feels like the emergency break is on. It moves but feels like it's being held back, the car will drive...

The brakes maybe jamb on. If driving foe approx 15 mins and then check each of the wheels to see if the brakes are very hot. This will indicate which brake is not releasing properly.
You then need to take your car to a brake specialist for repairs.

Emergency break locked onto rear break rotar... how do i disengage emergency break

if the brake handle will release, you can remove the tire and beat on the drum to help loosen it, if that doesn't work, your going to have to use the adjustment section and loosen it up more,

Rear breaks lock up at slow speeds. when traveling from 0 to 10 MPH if breaks are applied abruptly 1 or both of the rear wheels will lock up before the front breaks seem to engage, especially on wet road....

`right one of two problems ,firstly remove the rear drums and check for a fluid leak as a slight smear of fluid will cause the exact problems you describe ,if the rear shoes are dry then push the cylinder each side to make sure its not seized ,secondly check the load sensing valve which will be under the chassis above the back axle,if that appears ok and not seized then remove the master cylinder and take the piston out and check the rubbers and the cylinder bore for wear ,but mainly this fault is caused by the brake shoes having a slight amount of brake fluid contamination and it causes the brakes to grab

The emergency brake will not release when I pull the release handle.

just a little rusty is it ???\

theres a product called release all spray it down the parking break cable ends in the parking break housing
also if need to work asap put truck in reverse and slowely work it back and forth rock the truck

or if all else fails remove tires and wach drums with a hammer untill they release then once open pull the cables with vice grips and have friend pull hand break
so you get a back and forth motion untill cable free remem ber there are 2 rear drums on every truck
so do both cables

V-Rod 2003 rear breaks does not work properly it only lightly applies when you break and it should grab according to pressure applied to the break peddle

Check the level of the brake fluid in the master cylinder for the rear brakes. Then, try bleeding the brakes.

To bleed the brakes, open the bleeder valve on the rear brake caliper about a half turn. Press the rear brake slowly until it stops and hold it there. Tighten the rear brake bleeder valve while holding the rear brake pedal down. Then, release the brake pedal. Wait a few seconds and try the brake again. If it doesn't feel any better, go through the procedure several more times. Make sure you do not allow the rear master cylinder to run out of brake fluid. Check the master cylinder top cover or your owner's manual to find out exactly what type of brake fluid goes in the master cylinder. Do not mix different types of brake fluids. Dot4 and Dot5 (U.S.) brake fluid will not mix and will cause you severe problems. If this doesn't work, a complete overhaul of the rear brake system is called for.

1999 tahoe.right front brake caliper slow to release.

Besides changing the caliper did you by chance chg. the break hose going to it, there a 2-way hose fluid goes to caliper and returns thru same hose, and they have been known to cause what you have just discribed.

2002 tahoe breaks lock up during driving

It sounds like the rear calipers are bad. Raise the rear wheels and see if you can turn the tires. If you can't, open the bleeder. If you still can't replace the caliper. If you can turn the wheel after you open the bleeder, replace the brake hose to that wheel.

2002 Mountaineer SUV, 4WD, Especially while turning the wheels

I had the same problem with my 2002 Mountaineer at about forty thousand miles. Murcury replaced the steering column free under warranty. I now have ninty two thousand miles and it's back. The rear end is making a whining noise, the tranny is starting to slip, and the rear window regulator went out. Why did we buy a Mercury?????? Disgusted Dave!!!
