Question about 2003 Honda VT 750 CD Shadow A.C.E. Deluxe

1 Answer

2002 VT750DC Spirit fuel pump not running durring normal ops.

Tested fuel pump with 12v and it pumps fine. Drained carb bowls to allow float to drop and open needle valves. pump stops properly when presure builds up. engine will not run without help from the choke. What is the test for proper pulse input to the fuel pump relay? (or another test for the pulse generator)

My kawasaki brute force 750 was running great all winter with no problems, except for the odd tough time starting due too weather condition. But my problem all started this morning, everything seems normal...

Hey Belbowski,
Has it been sitting for a while?? Sounds like it could be several things..
1. The needle and seat in the carb may be dirty/clogged/sticking and not allowing a full flow of fuel into the float bowl.. when the bowl fills, it will run fine for about 20 - 45 seconds then "run out of gas.. it will restart and repeat this over and over.
2. The petcock/fuel tank may be stopped up/clogged/blocked and not allowing a full flow of fuel to the carb... causing the same symptoms as #1.
3. may have a vacuum leak causing the fuel pump to not pump enough fuel to the carb. = Symptoms #1
4. Fuel pump might be bad. = Symptoms #1
Once you eliminate these items... repost with results.

2002 Honda Shadow Spirit seems like the fuel pump quits. I have with me on the bike a little squirt bottle of gas to squirt some gas in the cylinder to get it started again so I don't kill the...

Could be the fuel pump, the petcock screen, the fuel filter, the fuel regulator, or the float inside the carb.

Just start with the petcock and rule out one item at a time

Had one answer but i failed to mention that since the trk .had set up so long and would not run i used a gallon jug for a fuel tank and fresh gas .I also used clear fuel lines and could see the pump ****...

Lightly tap the CARB after or while cranking. If the vehicle has been in-op, the fuel in the bowl would have gone bad or dried out leaving a degree of corrosion behind. After soaking in fuel overnight, Tapping may permit the float to drop opening the needle valve. Chk the accelerator pump by working the throttle linkage. kEY OFF! lOOK INTO THE CARB TO VERIFY ACCELERATOR PUMP FUNCTION.. If you are pumping fuel, it should start. If no fuel, The pump may have dried up. Again, a good soaking overnight may swell up the plunger in the pump enough to get it working. Worse case scenario if none of this works is rebuild the CARB. Good Luck and be careful. _N_

I just purchased a 750 honda shadow spirit and the previous owner let it set without starting it.. i drained the old gas out and put new gas in and now when i start the bike gas pours out from the over...

The floats may be stuck, try and tap the float bowl on carb to see if you can free them up,if that does not work you will have to clean them, the bad gas has probably gunked up the float assemmbly not allowing them to shut off fuel flow when they are full, causing the over flow.

Can you assist with a John Deere lawn tractor? I

Leo, try removing the fuel bowl first and checking to see if the needle valve and float are working correctly.

Typically, whenever the fuel system has been "shellaced", the small port that lets fuel flow from the bowl into the carb, gets clogged. You can check this by removing the center nut on the bowl to drop it down. (turn off the fuel valve 1st) and be careful not to let the needle valve and spring retainer fall off the float.

Once you've done that, you can spray some Carb & Injector cleaner thru this port and use a small pipe cleaner to make sure the hole isn't clogged. Also, check the float to see if it's got any gas in it. If it does, you'll need to replace the float, as it shouldn't have anything but air in it, hence the term "float".

You should be able to get the carb working fine after doing the above, since you can get the engine running by spraying cleaner (starting fluid?) into the carb.

Here's a link to the B&S site where you can get info on your particular engine by using the model number stamped on the engine itself.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Fuel filter replacement

it may be possible that as long as you just ran out of fuel. that the system needs to reprime with fuel. when the carbs were ran dry. the fuel lines ran empty as well. there is a fuel pump that only works when the motor is cranking over. so the more you crank over the more fuel will start to refill the fuel lines and float bowls to help start again.
