I have a 1994 Toyota corolla changed the timing belt tensioner. trying to set timing, all marks line up except camshaft dots, can't get them to face each other without throwing off all the other marks


If you removed the tensioner and didn't lock the cams and crank down then you have to re-time the engine. It sounds like you let the exhaust and intake cams move.

Remove the spark plugs, put a ratchet on the crank pulley, slowly rotate engine until the cams line up. Once the cams are lined up remove, the timing belt and bring the crank around to the timing mark. put belt back on and let the tensioner go. put plugs back in...see if it'll start.

On the pulley, they are marks that line up with a mark on the head. That is TDC for the cam. Then set the crank to 0 on the timing marks. Put the belt back on.

Dodge neon timing


u need to put number one piston all the way to the top. u can take out the sparkplug and put a screwdriver in the hole. move the crank till piston reaches the top. then line up the timing marks and reinstall the chain.

Put water pump on now getting no fire


think you have not put the timing back right and it will need to be re done. hope you used a new belt and adjuster when you put it back together. you need to re line the timing marks on cams and on crank. then put the belt on adjust up making sure the number 1 piston is at the top as well as the timing marks on the cam check this with the crank making, put belt on and adjust up then turn engine one full turn. no spark plugs fitted. back to the timing marks making sure they line up if not re adjust the time until it line back up every time you turn the engine one full turn. then put the spark plugs in etc and start enging.

P0340 - Cam Timing

SYMPTOMS/CONDITIONS
of a mistimed camshaft system (all must apply):
  1. Camshafts have previously been removed from the engine.
  2. Engine runs rough.
  3. Vehicle sets P0340 (camshaft sensor code).
  4. Camshaft sensor has been checked with a known, properly operating camshaft sensor.

CORRECT:
The diagram in the manuals should show the timing marks on both cam gears to be on the blue timing chain links.

Timing marks? Installing timing chain need to know timing from cam to crank?


crank TDC ,cam ?? look on the back of it for a slot if a slot then it should be horizontal with the head ,dont know where the mark is on this vehicle ,didnt you put white paint on it first ?? i can tell you how to do it without timing marks if you cant find the marks

You did it the right way. If you tried to make a full cam revolution you would have hit the pistons with the valves. Put the lower timing cover and crank pulley back on. If the cam marks are aligned right and the mark on the lower timing cover lines up with the mark on the crank pulley, you're good to go.

My 1995 Dodge Caravan 3.3v6 has jumped time. The first time in I put new cam and crank grears and new chain. alined crank and cam @6 & 12. Did not know about the color links. Went in the 2nd time and...


Pull the spark plug from #1 cylinder. Cut a piece of
straight coat hanger wire about 8" long,(enough so it can't fall into the cyl.)insert the wire into the cylinder.
Have a helper turn the crank until the piston is at the
top of it's stroke.(using the wire to gauge the pistons position) remove dist. cap and turn the camshaft until
the roter is set to fire #1 cylinder. Now check your
timing gear marks, if they line up, your at TDC if not
bring the crank around again. You can do the piston
roter position test before you tear it down again.
this will give you an idea of where your at on the mechanical end of this. But first hook up an obdII
and see if the cam and crank sensors show codes.

I need to correctly put a F250 with a 86 351 winsdor motor back in time? - time chain and gears


Not terribly complicated. Set the crankshaft at TDC on timing scale before you start, as a reference. If the cover is off just stick it back on there for a minute and same for harmonic balancer.
Once you have done that you should see a mark on the lower gear, either straight up at the top or straight down (if at bottom, put damper back on and turn till it points up.) You should be able to find a corresponding mark on the cam gear. That mark needs to point down, directly at the one on the crank gear. To do that, loosely install the cam gear on the cam and turn it till it lines up. Remove the cam gear and place the chain over it and the bottom gear. do not change the crank or cam position. To check for proper alignment, put the balancer on the crank ant turn it exactly two turns. the marks should return to original indexing. Make sure you have everything tightened up and then put the remainder of the engine back together.

Timing marks


this is an easy one to time. the timing mark for the crank is 0 degrees-do not attempt to tum crank if cam timing is out. there is no distributor on this engine-it is advanced with your intake camshaft. The intake camshaft is the only tricky part to time. Be very careful because at 2500 rpm this cam actually moves forward via cam advance solenoid. It will hit your crank if not timed properly! so with your crank at o degrees-camshafts out of head if you need to turn engine to line up crank-on the exhaust cam(your left)behind the gear(on flange) there will be a hole big enough to put a small punch in that will line up with the top of the deck surface on the outer side(to the left). Now on your intake cam(your right) it will be just the opposite. the hole on the back side of the gear flange will line up on the right with the to p the deck surface. once in line hold intake cam and turn the gear(advancer) all the way to the right)-very important. You will have to start with you intake(put chain on) then line up your exhaust and install timing chain tensioner. always turn engine 360 degrees and recheck before you proceed. At least your at top dead center and you can visually see the lobes on both cams mostly straight up. hope I have been helpful.
