Question about 1999 Yamaha FZS 600 Fazer

2 Answers

I have a '99 FZS Fazer 600, and it won't start. I've been having problems with the battery running down when riding with lights on, and I sometimes have to push start the bike. Now though, the bike cut out and wouldn't start, even with a fully charged battery. I put the bike on it's centre stand and it started and ran fine. I then moved the bike and it cut out and won't start again. It turns over fine, but won't catch at all. I have done a few checks and found there is no spark getting to the plugs - but can't figure out why. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Matt

I had same problem turned out to be electrical issue check all your wiring connections under the seat and under your fuel tank and if there all fine try checking that your fuel pump motor is running mine wasnt because of damp on my wiring connectors. when you turn on the ignition the bike should click a few times and your fuel pump should come on look under your tank looks like this with 2 tubes running from your fuel tank http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/yamaha-fzs-600-fazer-00-fuel-pump_W0QQitemZ250559832283QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=&rvr_id=&cguid=6d2769071260a0e2048322d3fffcee00
this needs to be running or you will be riding the bike on gravity fed fuel and as soon as you open the bike up you will not get enough to the engine and will cut out hope this helps

Sounds like either the Kill Switch (if it has one) or the Key Switch. The bike has 2 ignition units so if it were that then one should still be good and you would hear a pop. Those Key switches can disassembled if you are inclined to do so

I suspect poor fuel delivery or starvation. At those rpms your bike requires a lot of fuel.Replace any and all fuel filters, check fuel lines for any kinks. Drain tank (petcock on pri ) then remove and clean petcock , replace. Run a bottle of techroline thru your next couple tanks of gas....Good Luck to you my friend...Tim

Could be a faulty starter motor. I would check the power to the motor when you try to start it.
Hope that helps.

Hi, Anonymous before testing any electrical component in the Starter Circuit it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test because your battery may have 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amps causing the battery to be faulty and must be replaced, especially "AGM" batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid or starter circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
14. Check for engine trouble codes.

Hi, Sctulin and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, needs to be 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
4. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
5. Tip over sensor needs a reset.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
10. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.

Hi im having problems with my 99 Fazer 600 (15k). After about 30 mins of motorway riding the revs die for a few seconds and then kick back in, everything electrical seems to carry on working. It will run...

First thing I would do is try draining the carb floatbowls incase you have water or dirt in the bowls and when you crack open the throttle it's drawing water/dirt into the jets.
have you checked the plugs? in the haynes manual as 10K-Ohms @20c
When was the last time the carbs were balanced?

hope this helps

Have put new battery on yamaha 600 fazer. Have 14.3 volts when running, and 14.2 volts when lights on. When not in use battery goes flat after a few days. Engine will turn over but will not fire. When jump...

take the battery in for a load test as it is not uncommon for new batteries to be faulty
have a auto / bike electrician check the electrics for a faulty relay /round leakage that is depleteing the battery
the charging voltage is down slightly (should be 14.5 volts minium regardless of lights on or off)
