Question about 2003 Harley Davidson FLHR Road king

Unable to remove the handle bar clamp shroud cover on '04 FLHRCI

I have recently purchased my first Harley, an '04 Road King Classic (I). The previous owner was much taller than me and had a longer reach so I need to move the handlebars back towards me about an inch or so to make it more comfortable. Unfortunately, I too have struck the same problem as another I read about here and cannot remove the fork shroud cover. I have followed my Clymer manual and gone in through the headlight to remove the locking nuts etc, but when I removed the steering lock cover to "remove the screw underneath' I too found two 'screws' that appeared to be like a rivet with a flat top so no tool, torx head, phillips head or otherwise can remove them. Totally different to what I was expecting and different to whats pictured in the manual.....

Can anyone help please?

Kind regards

Shane

How do i get to the clamps on a harley davidson road king handle bars?

The tops of the clamps are under a cover on top of the headlight nachelle. On the earlier, there were two screws that you had to take out and the handlebar clamps were right under the chrome cover. Now if you wish to get to the bushings on the "risers", most people call them clamps, you must remove the entire nachelle in most cases. This requires the removal of the windshield, headlight, turn signal bracket, and possibly other things. The bolts or nuts for the clamps are on the bottom side of the upper triple tree.

Harley Road King motor turned off

after checking the kill switch on the handle bars and the key. It could be a simple wire or even a computter problem check to see if you have spark if it even turns over, without knowing if it fuel injected or carb its hard to give an exact find or fix. If your not formiluar with the road kings working I would suggest you take it to a harley mech.
