Question about 2001 kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja

1 Answer

My 01 zx6r sputters in the upper gears. Runs like a champ in the lower 3. I have replaced air and fuel filters, checked all air intake and cleaned carbs.

Purchase a can of Seafoamfrom Autozone$10 pour in 1/3 can to two gallons gas get on it right away and get it to speed a few times...it took me 10 miles before my hesitation problem went away. did you check or replace your plugs yet? plugs are only good for about 7/8000 miles.

Hi, Steven and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
2. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Spark plugs in bad condition or partially fouled.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition and leaking.
5. Spark plug gap too close or too wide.
6. Faulty ignition coil, module, and or sensor.
7. Loose, dirty, or corroded ignition module connector at crankcase.
8. Faulty CKP or CMP, MAP, ETS, ATS, TPS, O2 sensor.
9. Intake air leak.
10. Water, dirt, or rust in the fuel system, carburetor and/or filter.
11. Fuel tank vent system plugged or carburetor vent line closed off.
12. Vacuum line from intake manifold to fuel valve is broken, cracked, pinched, or missing.
13. Carburetor controls misadjusted.
14. Damaged carburetor.
15. Incorrect valve timing.
16. Weak or broken valve springs.
17. Damaged intake or exhaust valve.

04 grand prix 3800 series engine. it runs at low rpms, drops below 1000 in lower gears it sputters badly. I've changed the fuel filter, and sparkplugs, But the check engine light comes on at times

Check the trouble codes. there must be a code or a pending code if the CEL came on. Post them here, or you can google the codes for lots of information-descriptions, and possible causes and remedies. Autozone, O'Reilleys, probably others will do code scans for free.

How many miles on it? That engine was prone to upper and lower intake manifold gasket failure, although GM might have corrected the problem gaskets by '04.

Sputtering and stalling S10

Did you put a replacement injector assembly in under the upper intake, this is a major problem with this model. How's your fuel mileage? If this is your prob you need to change it because the leaking fuel goes down in your oil pan, thins the oil and blows your engine. Check your oil, is it over full or smell like gas?

Motorcycle feels like it is cutting out

Hi, Dustin tried to look up your previous question but couldn't find it, this situation would be tough for a trained professional to diagnose because it could be electrical, mechanical, or fuel related you may have to take it to a shop. Below is another checklist geared toward fuel injection and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a "LOAD" test if necessary.
2. Failed alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Failed main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Failed system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Failed ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
7. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Fuel tank empty.
10. Fuel tank contaminated with ethanol sludge.
11. Water or dirt in the fuel system, or clogged filter.
12. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
13. Faulty fuel pump.
14. Faulty pressure regulator.
15. Faulty or clogged fuel injectors.

I got code 171 and 174 in my mercury sable 2001 so my question is what can i do or what can i buy i mean the piece de maf or my fuel filter?

P0171 fuel lean bank 1, P0 174 Fuel lean bank 2 More likely the MAF you can correct this by cleaning the MAF but you need to use brake cleaner and you ahve to remove it from its housing (it has anti tampering screws) a vacuum leak can also cause both banks to go lean and even low fuel pressure wheter it is a filter or pumpcansmo_53.gif

When the vehicle is placed in gear the rpm's drop low and it almost stalls. if i press the gas the rpm's drop even lower, if i hold the gas slightly at this ponit it will slowly begin to go and starts to...

sounds like an intake manifold gasket leak which will throw of the air fuel mixture and engine cannot account for extra air.also check(maf)(map)(tps)sensors and/or (iac)intake air control valve...hope this helps you. thanks for using fix ya please rate answer.

It is the head gasket. Have that replaced and you will be fine. You have an air leak. I was told by the mechanic at mazda that the anti freeze eats away at the gaskets. CRAZY, but it works. I still have an issue with my 2001 Tribute revving while in park. Its always something.
