Have S1 Lightning 2000 fuel injection, have just bought, its been standing 6 years. I have taken the petrol tank off, and drained the fuel out of the filler cap, it won't come out of the pipe in the tank, is there a pump in the tank, there are a few wires connected, also what looks like an air valve. The petrol has turned to yellow turps. Is it advisable to take all the bits off. A plastic piece fell out of the tank with a magnet built in. Is this anything to do with the problem. The engine seems to turn and runs for a few seconds on a blast of easy start. If when running I shall change all the fluids etc.

you haven't given which make , model, year of engine type of fuel pump, make of fuel pump and the only clue is the flywheel
the injection timing mark is normally denoted as a lightning symbol and you will find it anywhere between 14 degrees btdc to 22 degrees btdc
or it will be set at the degrees btdc r recommended by the manufacturer
It has to be exact because after that mark will be down on power and too far advanced will melt pistons
You'll have to check with either a dealer or look in a "Black Book of Motorcycle Values" to see if H-D offered that year model with fuel injection. Look for a listing for a FLSTCI. The "I" indicates that the bike was fuel injected. I don't think fuel injection was available on the Softail until 2003 but I may be wrong on that. I am not a dealer nor have I ever worked in a Harley dealership. I'm an independent mechanic that worked on Harley-Davidson for years. I'm retired now.
I have a 99 X1 #170/250 it does same thing when its cold. I put the buell race module still does it took it in and had motor turn apart and found nothing bike runs great when its warm you need to let it warm up it should start to fire
They had a recall on the shocks on those bikes. They changed the shock and the bracket. It depends on if your bike has been updated or not. Also not all the shocks interchange. The dealer can run your vin to tell you if the update has been done.,
i just bought a 01 buell xb12scg a few weeks ago. I have put 1000 miles on it and now it only has 2600 miles and it drove fine one minute and i went to start it the next and it would start. I took a plug out and it was dry. what could this most likely be? fuel pump? it turns over fine and everything.with the earlier models (x1 s1 m2, etc) you will avoid lots of problems when switching to carb. Other than that, it could be the fuel pump, blockage in fuel line, malfunction in ECM, etc...,,,
