Question about 2004 kawasaki ZX-10R

Fuel pump not turning on, I can put power to it and it comes on. Checked relay and resistance was at spec. any suggestings

Under your seat is a self diagnosis plug. should be a a single wire on the left side. turn on your bike and connect that wire to ground enabling you to read the codes by counting the flashes on your dash. your Fi indicator should tell you a code, your owners manual or local dealer will tell you what the code is. you can also google for zx-10r fi codes. start here

I have a 2004 Daytona 600. It's been sitting for several years. I changed the battery, oil, gas, and spark plugs but it still won't start. Engine turns but don't know of it's not getting gas or fuel.

You should hear the pump in the gas tank turn on for 2 seconds when you turn the key to on, not start. A buzz or hum from the tank area? If yes, the pump is supposed to put enough pressure in the line to the engine and the injectors for the car to start. Maybe not enough pressure if it won't start. Change the fuel filter and try again. If no help, maybe a weak, tired pump. You will need the fuel pressure checked to compare to specs for your model . Autozone and others rent or loan fuel pressure testers.

If no noise from the pump, check the fuel pump fuse, under the hood in the power distribution center or fuse/relay box. In that same place is the fuel pump relay. Locate the pump relay from a diagram on the fuse/relay cover. Hold your finger lightly on this pump relay while someone cycles the ignition key from off to on. If the pump circuit is working right, you should feel the relay click. That should send power to the fuel pump to turn it on for that 2 second period. If you feel it click and the fuse is good, possibly the pump or the pump's ground wire is faulty. If you don't feel the relay click with key turned to on, the fuel pump circuit will have to be diagnosed. Good luck with your project. Let me know how you progress.

Did yo check where it comes out of the coil or the other end of the wire that comes from the coil wire could be bad if you have an ohm meter connect it to wire only and see if there is high resistance in the wire

The fuel pump relay has four pins. Two pins relate to low power switch circuit from the ECU and the other pins relate to the high current switched circuit which has a permanent power in and switched power out (to fuel pump). Check that the ground on the lower switch circuit pins is good and then check that when the ignition key is in the 'on' position that the low power switch pin has 12.6ish volts supplied to it. If there is no low power switching supply then the relay cannot function. If there is low power supply but no voltage switch on the output then the issue sounds like the relay itself. Pull the relay out and check that it clicks when 12v is dropped across the low circuit pins. Check the resistance across the high current output circuit pins when the low pins are given 12 volts. As 12 volts is applied across the low voltage pins the resistance across the high current output pins should drop to near zero as the internal contacts are closed. As the low side voltage is removed the high side pin resistance should once again register open circuit (infinite resistance). If the relay clicks but fails to output then either replace the relay or open it up and get a nail file and draw it between the contact pins to remove any corrosion.

have you check for power to the main fuel relay ,it is near the ECM. it also poers the ECM up. if no power is coming from it then the ECM will not ground the secondary fuel relay to transfer power back to the fuel pump.

Replace fuel pump is the answer given by those who don't really know anything or just want to sell pumps. Too many peole just replace there pumps only to find it doesn't solve the problem. You have to diagnose the problem. This could be bad fual pump relay, open in fuel pump circuit, ground problem in fuel pump circuit. Check voltage at connector near fual tank. low voltage here indicates a possible wire or relay problem. Check resistance to chassis ground from ground pin at connector supplying ground to pump. Any resitance over .3 ohms indicates a ground problem. Check resistance across the pump motor, infinite (open) resitance indicates a bad pump. normal pump resistance is usually in the range of 2 to 4 ohms or so (Check manufacturers specs to get your pump motors resistance). If you do pull pump, check operation by putting 12 volts (correct polarity) across the original pump before buying replacement. If you hear (or feel) pump run, problem may be somewhere else (not pump). With a little well thought out diagnistics, you should be able to quickly pinpoint the real problem, even when it just looks like a fule pump problem.

Fuel but no start

Sounds like the problem might be in the relay but before replacing that relay, check all fuses and especially any ecm fuses. Do you have a check engine light come on when you turn the key to the on position?I believe that on this vehicle there is a relay that is labeled "eec relay" this is the relay for the power to the ecm. eec stands for "electronic engine control" If this circuit is dead the fuel pump relay will not come on either, but worse than that the ecm stays dead and the injectors are not delivering the fuel to the engine even when you jump the fuel pump manually.
Check these items and make sure that the computer is getting power and I think you problem will be found.

There is a black wire with a connector like thing in it near the battery cable on the negative post make sure that this connection is good ,it is the ecm ground and the same symptoms will happen if it is not connected well.
