Hi, if the 2007/2008 r1 spins fast but chgs and has to be coakst with the throttle to keep running and cuts out when the throttle is closed then it maybee due to the battery, i have fixed lots of them now afterm much fault finding by fitting a new genuine or yuasa battery. The problem is that all the power is being used to spin the engine and even once started there is not enough voltage to fire the spark and injectors properly and the charging system has not yet been able to pull the battery up. REPLACE THE BATTERY IT WILL SORT IT, PAUL (YAMAHA DEALER)

Run a little Seafoam maybe start out with1/4 can to two gallons gas..when you get your bike started get on the thing it will probably still have the problem until the seafoam carb/injector cleaner gets in there and does its thing...i had a very bad constant hesitation problem it took 10miles before i felt it spit it out....runs great now and i use it everymonth about 1/3 can to full tank.

nice fix Mr yamaha i just would have never suspected the battery because it was a 07 and i didnt think it possible for a battery to go bad that quick...i hope that the new yuasa battery i installed on my bike in oct 08 wont go bad sometime within the next five months.

I been having problems lately with starting my 08 r1.. bought it new and only has 2000 miles.. cuts on but wont turn over.. after couple tries battery drained.. but bike will start with the help of a...

you sound like you have a dead cell in your battery, if so it needs replacement. A dead cell in the battery can happen from various things, and wont hold a full charge if you put it on a tester it will give you 9-10 volts instead of 12.5 -13 volts, the coil wires run directly from the battery so it has access to full power (makes sense right?) and if your battery isn't holding under full load then that could be the fix for you

When starting from cold ticks over ok .once warm if i then stop and restart it stalls at tickover

Hi, Tom and the usual suspects are:
1. Idle circuit and transfer ports clogged.
2. Air fuel mixture adjustment too lean.
3. Pilot jet clogged.
4. Faulty accelerator pump.
5. Float level too low.
6. Float bowl contaminated old fuel, water, dirt, rust, etc.
7. Float bowl vent or overflow tube clogged.
8. Fuel flow to carburetor restricted.
9. Intake manifold leak.
10. The gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked.
11. Vacuum line from intake manifold to petcock broken, cracked, or not attached, carburetor vent line plugged.
12. Needle and seat stuck closed in the float bowl.
