Question about 2002 Suzuki DR-Z 250

1 Answer

I was riding my DR 250 4 stroke suzuki yesterday and suddenly I felt it is going to shut down when I accelerate, and now I cant drive it, because when I accelerate, the motorcycle shuts down, I can start the engine normally, I think it might be because the night before I ride the bike I put some motorcycle oil in it, I am not sure. I need help :(

Can I fit a SUZUKI RM 250 Engine into a 2000 RM 125 frame?

Hi, Anthony sounds like something I would try when I was a kid but after careful deliberation 4 out 5 Suzuki Gods give this one a thumbs down, but just to be on the safe side you should give your local dealer's parts/service department a call to confirm it's just not worth the time trouble and expense you would be better off getting a used 250 bike. no
the sump oil deteriorates if too hot and that destroys the engine
It is designed to have an oil cooler so fit one
Probably removed because it was damaged
contact a dealer service for the oil quantities and viscosity requirements

Kick start on my 1990 suzuki dr 350 does not engage

Don't hold the lever in as you kick. It is designed to get you just past TDC on the compression stroke. Try this:

1. pull in decomp lever (it should stay down)
2. slowly move kick start down. STOP as soon as the decomp lever pops up.
3. return kick starter to the top of the stroke.
4. kick smoothly all the way to the bottom. (takes very little effort)
5. no start? return to step 1.

If it still problem try check the adjustment on the decomp lever. The lever should stay down until you rotate the engine with the kick start to just past TDC on the compression stroke.

2003 Suzuki DR-Z 400 quit running while riding

Hi, Nicholaspoug and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
2. Failed alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Failed main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Failed system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Failed ignition coil, stator, magneto, ignition/electronic module.
7. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Faulty neutral, side stand or clutch lever safety switch.
10. Faulty or corroded kill switch.
11. Accelerator pump damaged or not working.
12. Water or dirt in the fuel system, carburetor or filter.
13. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
14. Fuel tank empty.
15. The gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked, loosen gas cap and go for a test ride.
16. A failed fuel pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.
17. Vacuum line from intake manifold to petcock broken, cracked, or not attached, carburetor vent line plugged.
18. Needle and seat stuck closed in the float bowl.
19. Petcock clogged or damaged.
20. Lean angle switch is faulty or needs adjustment.
21. Catastrophic engine failure, perform a compression test.

I was riding my DR 250 4 stroke suzuki yesterday and suddenly I felt it is going to shut down when I accelerate, and now I cant drive it, because when I accelerate, the motorcycle shuts down, I can start...

The problem you describe could be several different things, however, I will post a solution for the most likely. The fact the the shut down occurs when you attempt to accelerate, indicates it is "starving", running out of fuel when you call for it. When you open the throttle, typically, you allow the engine to injest more fuel/air mix, thus the rpms go up. In your situation, your carb reponds to you opening the throttle by allowing more air, but the same amount of fuel, thus the mixture leans out, (too much air, not enough fuel to fire). The likely cause is an obstruction in the fuel delivery system. Could be a clogged fuel filter, trash in the fuel. A piece of trash in a carb jet. The fix is to check and clean everything in the lines, the filter, and possibly the carb. Hope this helps...GOOD LUCK!
