My 01 Jaguar XJR started having a rough idle.

My 01 XJR started having a rough idle. It has about 70K miles. The check engine light came on. Then, this morning, the car wouldn't start. When I jumped it using cables, it started, but still rough idle. Once I start driving it, the car seems fine...it is just a rough idle when I come to a stop.

2005 (Dec) Jaguar X-Type 2.0 Diesel. It starts with rough idle 500-600 rpm for 2-3 seconds. and after jumps to 850 - 900 rpm and then drives perfectly.

Question edited for clarity and translated into written English.
Question moved from Ford to Jaguar category.

You should always take the upgrades. They are fixes to known issues.

All Diesel engines are slow to start as they need pressure and heat which happens after a few revolutions of the engine.

Rough Idle is normally because the Throttle Body and MAF need cleaning.

Intermittent shut down of Jaguar XJR while running

The fault is intermittent - strikes without warning - and I guess if there are no error codes - so the fault is beyond the reach of the computer sensors - change your high tension coil.

01' Jaguar XJR Starter location?

If you get just a click you should first check battery charge and all battery connections. The click is probably the solenoid kicking in but without enough battery to turn over the engine.

2001 Jaguar XJ8 Idles rough while sitting

o2 sensors often cause a rough idle at stand still. Previously my xj8 had crank case ventilation (pvc valve essentially) issues that caused the check engine w/ restricted performance. I noticed a severe drop in gas mileage as well. Jaguar dealer fixed my problems in a few hours and it was surprisingly cheap. Its worth taking it to advanced or auto zone to see what the computer says. Then decide if you want to shell out for a dealer fix or if you can tackle it yourself. BTW, just to justify myself this is my third jaguar. I have a '94 xj6 with a chevy 350 inside it, previously owned a 95 XJ6 and currently have the xj8. They are wonderful cars if you can put up with their rough times.

Stalling at idle

Bought a use 03 last week for very cheep because it was idling rough, read in a forum about focus vacuum leaks and to use small burst of starting fluid to find the leak, spray around engine, if you hear the engine level off and run smooth in a particular spot for a few seconds the leak is in that general area, check the hose in that area, i found a large elbow on my pvc valve line was cracked in half, repaired with copper plumbing elbow fitting and silicone. now runs perfect. be very careful with the starting fluid short burst in well ventilated are.
