parking lamps are brutal simple. and for sure on any old 96
the connection to the light adjustment knob thats imbeded in your dash. the one that adjusts the intensity of your dash lights and such probably came loose or detached.
possibly the dimmer switch on the floor? happened on my 91 half ton dims didnt work but brights did and then they cut out altogether. a little water goes a long way
If both headlight's just suddenly went out then i would check the fuse. The lid on the fuse box will have the number of the fuse you would need to check.
