The battery currently fitted is a YB16B-A1
Is this the correct as the terminals seem to catch on the frame and short out.
Also what would be the best Spark plugs to fit?

I get nothing when I turn the key, no lights any ideas what it could be?

Well, Kathy, if the tractor has been sitting for a few months, like over the winter, chances are the battery has lost a bit of its charge. A general rule of thumb is a dormant battery will lose approximately 1/2 volt each month its sitting in a non-running vehicle or without a "float" charger.

However, the first thing I'd do would be to remove the battery terminals and thoroughly clean inside the cable ends as well as the actual battery posts themselves. There seems to be a tendency for those old terminals to corrode up a bit and inhibit the current flow.

Be very careful NOT TO GROUND out your wrench on the frame of the tractor or the gas tank as you are removing or re-installing the battery because you could cause a direct short to ground with your wrench and make you really jump out of your skin !!!! Follow the cables and find the one that grounds to the frame and remove that one first then the other one and that will minimize the chance of grounding out the wrench. Then reinstall that one last.

If after cleaning the terminals AND the cable ends there is still a problem, consider having someone charge your battery fully and try it again. You should at least get something to happen with a fully charged battery and clean terminals though. If not, post back the results and let us know what did and what did not happen and we can walk you through the next phase.

01 Saturn sc 3d battery postive post gets hot and smokes

Check the voltage being applied to it when the car is running. Be careful though. An overcharging battery will produce explosive gases and can explode if sparked. If the case of the battery is getting misshapen or hot, avoid use and get the charging system checked out immediately. An normal charging system will be putting out about 14 VDC to the battery. If it is considerably higher than that, have the system tested. If not, it is possible that there is a high current draw, or even maybe something as simple as a loose or corroded terminal causing the heating issue.

How to fix error code 50 on EFX 5.21i?

Precor Error 50, Too Much Brake (Magnet) Current Probable Cause 1. Shorted or damaged wiring between the lower PCA and the eddy current magnet is the most common cause for this error.
2. Bad eddy current magnet.
3. Bad lower PCA.
Corrective Action
  1. Thoroughly inspect the eddy current wiring and connections ensuring that the wires are not shorted to the frame or shorted together. Repair or replace damaged wiring as necessary.
  2. Disconnect the wires from the eddy current magnet. Using an ohm meter, check for approximately 100 ohms across the eddy current magnet terminals. If the reading is considerably low, replace the eddy current magnet. Measure ohms between each eddy current magnet terminal and the frame ground. You should have no resistance between the eddy current magnet terminal and the frame ground. If resistance is present this would indicate a partial short, replace the eddy current magnet.
  3. If the eddy current magnet wiring and the eddy current magnet are both good from the above tests, replace the lower PCA.

Battery sparks on hook up positive and negetive terminals are correct

You will get sparks if you connect or disconnect the battery incorrectly. The problem with sparks are they can fire voltage and current spikes down wires to sensitive electrical/electronic components, meters, clocks, alarms etc.

There is only one way to safely and correctly remove and re-fit a motorcycle battery. To remove it undo negative lead first then positive. To fit/refit a battery connect positive lead first then negative. Hope this helps

Have a 1996 Toyota Vienta SC, battery keeps going dead on me...car is fitted with an immobilizer if it goes off the battery seems to run down shortly afterward. What can I do to fix this problem?

If your are sure the battery is in good condition and is being charged up OK by the alternator, the easiest way is to remove the battery negative terminal and connect an ammeter (use the 10A or 20A setting) between it and the battery post. Then try various conditions with the immobilizer to see which causes a big current drain.

I just changed the battery on my John Deere LT155. I have attached the positive terminal, but as soon as I touch the negative to the post - sparks and then smoking from underneath the air filter. The light...

Hey, sounds like there could be a short under the air filter, remove and check to see if there are any signs or arcing to the frame, if so, repair (electrical tape) affected cable. You should always attach negative lead first, then positive, this will ensure frame and circuits is at same potential of battery. Hope this helps. Matt.
