Question about Yamaha RD 350 Motorcycles

I want to know,tunning of rd350 engine.wat will be gap between points. because my bike,doesnt start properly,missing the spark.problem with carbon in points

Put a fingernail file between the point contacts then press the contact arm down lightly as you move the file in and out. Filing the points gives a new surface to pitted contacts. The standard gap is .015. I assume you have a timing light to set the timing. For parts, try the link below.

What make, model, year is the bike??? The coil likely has no gap to set. Do you have a points type ignition system?? The spark plug and any other gap(s) will always be critical so do not rely on a bit of business card or other thing unless you know it is of the correct or close to the correct thickness to achieve the proper gap. With points if the gap is to large the dwell will not be sufficient to allow an adequate voltage rise and if the spark plug gap is too small it will allow a weak spark to jump too soon and if it is too large the spark may never reach a high enough voltage to bridge the gap. It could be so weak, so low voltage that it will not bridge a spark plug gap or you will not see it or otherwise evidence it because it is so weak. If there is spark but weak and the bike will not fire this is exacerbated with increasing compression pressure as it will be harder for the spark plug to fire/spark as required with increased pressure. With some bikes if you have both of two spark plugs disconnected ie wires not grounded at the plug end there will be no spark produced. That is another reason why bike information is needed to properly address your question. Also one would like to know how you are testing for spark? You also should provide some history of the problem and why you have done whatever you have done so far?

What is the proper gap of a spark plug on a 28 graham brothers truck

Depends. It depends upon which engine (Dodge six? Dodge eight?) the truck has. It depends upon how much compression the engine has, and upon how strong the coil is. A good starting point would be around 0.035". If that gap results in a persistent miss, especially at higher engine speeds, try 0.005" more or less - if the miss gets worse, go the other way. When the plugs fire consistently at all speeds, your gap is "correct".

Why after it did the tune up on my buick rendezbouz it starter misin up

A tune up consists of changing distributor cap and rotor, wires and spark plugs. I would check to make sure the wires were replaced properly in the correct sequence and were tightly connected to the spark plugs and distributor cap. Next, if they are are tight, I would make sure wires are not touching anything that could ground them out. Looking at them at night with the lights out sometimes reveals a stray spark grounding out on the engine. Besides making sure you seated the rotor into the cap, I would finally check each plug for the proper gag...they don't come pre-gapped anymore. Hope this helps.

The bike is starting only with small plug gap.If we set the gap to original it wont start? tell me the reason?

.....A weak battery comes to mind for starters. A carboned up spark plug is another; start with a new spark plug. If I recall correctly from 39 years ago, your bike has ignition points and condenser. Remove the points cover (on left end of the overhead cam), and check the points. Burned? Pitted? Get a new set of points and condenser but for now, just file the points a bit using an emery board or metal fingernail file. Set the points to .015 clearance at the high point on the cam lobe. If you have a timing light you could check the timing and adjust as needed by rotating the points base plate left or right. Bad points give resistance to the flow of electricity. When the points are closed, the condenser gets charged up. Less electricity going through the points means less of a charge going into the condenser. Now the points open up and the stored charge goes from condenser to coil. The coil then produces a spark. With a low charge in the condenser, the spark is weak and will not jump a wide gap. Set the plug gap to very little and the weak spark can jump the gap. The standard gap is .028. ....... I don't recall when Honda move the points to the flywheel but the images below may help if your bike is that style. Clean any rust on noted parts; magnets and pick up coils. I have a 1978 starcraft boat with a 470 mercruser in it or a 170 or 180 ford engine we have spark to the coil but not to the distribtor what is the point setting or what are we doing wrong

I am a bit reluctant to jump on this one as you have spark at the coil and not to the distributor. If you have spark at the coil... the points are working. It I don't want to sound like a wise arse here but it would appear the coil wire from coil to the distributor itself is bad.

However.... there could be other problems like a missing rotor in the distributor... or the carbon and spring have fallen out of the distributor cap internal center post.

The above seems to be the only thing that makes sense at the moment. Like I said the points have to be working to have spark at the coil.

Dwell should be 29 - 31 and the timing 8 - 10. I know at the moment it is impossible to check either.
You can set the point gap at .020 to start... then adjust dwell once you have figured out where the missing spark is.

Respond if you need more help but refrain from rating this post until we figure out what is causing your problem and have cured the no spark issue.

Turns over not starting changed points

Verify the point gap is set right and that you are getting a good spark. Check to see if you are getting fuel to the carb.

When cold gives hard time to start

make a proper gap adjustment in spark plug accordingly to the manufacturer guideline adjust tunning if required see for proper fuel supply try it out 1st & let us know what problem you face after it ...

My bullet,when start immediately getting too hot especially exhaust portion

Just see for the spark plug installed in properly fasten or tighten properly , see for that the spark plug gap is properly kept as per instructed by the manufacturer guideline, too low or high gap in spark plug may also result in for such problem, 2nd see for weather your bullet motorcycle is equipped with a CDI unit or a traditional deco system ignition system with delco point see for that if the bike come with delco point see for proper CV Point gap is kept as per the manufacture any thing else then just let me know.. see you...

Spark plug gap

All these engines have a magneto ignition. The faster the mag spins the higher (better) the sparkplug voltage. So the gap is only set for the ease of starting and is not a huge part of tunning as it is on a car. Try .020 inches.
