LIGHTLY seat both the throttle screw and air screw. Now back each one outward one and one half turns. This is the stock setting.

Could you take a moment and rate my answer? Thanks!

What is the spark gap and are all brands the gap?

When you buy plugs that fit your car, they are gapped to specs, but you should always check the gap anyway.

The spark plug gap should be shown on the Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) label, under the hood or on the radiator support, the long white label or sticker.

Hard to start, when i get it started it fine shut it off try to start it hard to start

Hi
General advice aplicable for all gas powered chain saws;
Clean air filter regularly.
-Adjust spark plug gap (very important). A faulty gap will either cause poor spark or a overloaded and damaged spark plug coil.
-Use correct good quality spark plug
-Use correct oil/fuel mix ratio and correct oil.
-Do not use old premixed fuel if you can avoid it.

Carburator adjustment;
-idle speed setting screw should be set so that the saw idles well, without engaging the chain. If you normally have to press the gas lever to be able to start it coul indicate a to low seting. Clockwise will increase idle speed. This screw is found near the carburator and is slightly larger the the two adjusment screws.
- fuel-air mixture screws can be set to standard factory setting as a start. Normally there are 2 screws labeled L and H, for Hi and Low rpm band adjustments. Factory setting are usually 3/4 turn out(anti clockwise) from fully closed setting for both (clockwise to closed position).
Experiment with adjustments by 1/8 increments at the time. Anti clockwise turning will increase fuel to air ratio and opposite. Warm weather will require a slightly leaner mix and cold weather will reqire a slightly richer mix(more fuel). Low rpm setting only serves the idling performance. The Hi rpm setting can be evaluated by removing the spark imediately after running at full load for a period. The spark plug should be dry, and be lightly brownish at the electrodes. White-ish color indicates low fuel to air mix, and this causes too high combustion temperature. A black colour indicates a too high fuel to air mix ratio, and it causes carbon build up on the plug.

If you still have starting problems, cylinder/piston compression is the next to check for. This is a more extensive job and should best be left to professionals, unless you are very skilled and have access to special tools required. Compression on modern saws are very delicately balance, so the slightest damage to either the rings, piston or cylinder can cause problems. Is is not alwas worth to replace the cylinder and piston kit, so compare prices and ask for advice at your dealer.

I hope this helps you.

I have a yamaha pw50, it runs slow when cold &

Most likely a combination of sparkplug heat range (type of plug) and jetting, needle or air mixture settings in the carburetor. Assuming good condition of air filter and operation of the choke plunger. Are you using the correct octane fuel and fuel/oil ratio? Give the plug a clean and emery the spark contacts, set gap at 0.7mm., ideally take the plug to a Yammy dealer and check for correct range for your bike in the area where you ride.
Best to have a range of spare clean plugs handy for wet or hot days etc.
The jetting maybe dirty or wrong size too. In the meantime move the throttle needle clip down one notch. Refer to the site below for a diagram of the carburetor parts. Cheers.

My 1991 suzuki gsf400 has erratic idling. also is hard to start.

This could be almost anything, probably minor. Good premium unleaded fuel, fresh/clean and gapped plugs, fuel filters clean,. Carbies clean and jets good, correct float levels, no air leaks in intakes, air filter clean, Electrical connections 100%, ignition coils OK, no sign of moisture behind magneto/stator cover or on source/pick-up coils. Engine earth wire secure from head to frame?
So....
New plugs, 0.7mm gap to start with and set air* mixture screw 1.5 turns out.
To flush carby with cleaning solvent (spray can from auto access.) Take float bowls off (check for sediment) and fuel lines off and spray till it pours out of float needle seat, Loosen carby clamps and swivel carbies outwards 90 degrees and unscrew pilot jets and spray thru also. Check operation and smooth return of choke.
* Air mixture screw controls fuel-air mixture at idle speed and is a trial and error thing. Pilot and Main jets regulate cruising and acceleration mixtures and ranges according to rider style and riding and climate conditions.
If there is any undue noise comming from the top of the engine with revs slowly rising from idle to 2000 revs, you may need to check camchain tension and valve clearances, easy done with some simple tools and a manual. Downloadable free with an engine search!
Goodluck and Cheers.

How to tune air and fuel mixture of carburetor of hero honda passion plus

Run the motorbikes engine to a normal running temperatue and thn set the air-fuel mixture by ...tightening all the way in taking care not to over tighten it as you may damage the tip of the screw, usually its thn 2 and half turns outwards or 3 , you will notice the change inthe idling of the bike's engine.
Its better to check the spark plug gap and also check the air filter, blow it with compressed air or if its tht dirty best would be to replace it.
Good luck.

My honda 400 bros is not runing right 1 plug is wet the rest is sutted up as if runing rich what would think it is

Sooted plugs proves tht the air-mixture is too rich.(too much fuel going to the combustion chamber)
You have to set the air-mixture screw on the carb/s.
Clean the carb/s, replace 'inline' filter , if you don't have one ..install one, reset float level.
It's better to also check the valve clearance too.
Fit in new plugs (gapping them to specs.) and run the engine to its normal temperature thn set the air-mixture screw...standard setting....all the way in i.e. tighten it slowly to the end making sure not to damage the tip of the screw, thn 2 and half turns outwards to 3.
Start the engine....run to normal temperature and thn reset the air-mixture screw +/- either way.
Hope this helps!

Spark plug gap setting for a 98 range rover

what have you replaced with your tune up? should change plugs and plug wires, as well as the fuel filter, and air filter. the plugs should be set to factory spec.. be absolutely sure you've got the correct wires going to the correct plugs. the coil packs are a pain to get to but if all else fails, it may be time to replace them.

Choke is working only has 5000km on bike and once bike warms up it loads up wih fuel and then dies out all ports are clean i tore the carb a part 3 times what should the fuel|air screw be set at.it must be...

It seems the carb/s flooding with fuel and thus it dies, try to reset the float pin and get the correct level of the fuel in the float chamber.
Standard procedure for air-mixture screw setting is u take the screw right in slowly taking care not to over tighten it as it may damage the tip of the screw.
Warm up your bike's engine and thn slowly turn anti clockwise the air-mixture screw to about 2 & a half turns and observe the engine's idling.
Before you attempt this setting(air-mixture) its better too, to replace the spark plug and set the gap to the specs of your bike's engine and check and adjust accordingly the valve clearance.
Hope this helps!

Carb settings

Hi Stephen,
Its simple , just remove the air filter clean it and check the spark plug and reset it to its right specs the gap.
Locate the air-mixture screw on the carb and warmup thebike's engine.
Turn the air-mixture screw in tothe last , but very slowly as to not damage it as its very sharp at the end of it, at this point increase the idling a little thn turn the air-mixture screw outwards 1 and a half turns and you will notice the difference in the engine , it may rev a little higher and be stable , here you will have to reduce the idling speed and again try to readjust the air-mixture screw outwards a little or inwards alittle depends how the engine responds.
Hope this will help!
