Question about 1996 kawasaki VN 800 A Vulcan

1 Answer

My 94 Vulcan 750. yesterday my turn signal dash indicator light lit up steady while not in left or right position. Rear right signal is out, but when I put the right signal switch on it blinks. My back left signal light is lit up, but when I put the switch to left signal it won't blink. Both bulbs are good. I switched the bulbs -same thing. Fuses are good also. What to do?

Actually I've discovered that it's not the signal lights afterall. A fuse was blown. I changed it & all was normal for about 5 minutes, then it happened again. I think it may have something to do with the battery as it has been losing power recently & I have been charging it with a trickle charger periodically.
I think there must be spikes in the power from the battery that is blowing the fuse. I suppose a new battery should fix the problem hopefully. Any thoughts by anyone is appreciated.

The only moving wiring loom on the bike is the exit from the tank area to the headlamp cluster and , has to be high on the suspect list. The handle bar to main frame should be inspected also ! Good luck

Left turn signal quit

Most probably is a short in left light wiring. I'd start at the connection for that side on the fuse box being it dims other lights when it's used.

Left rear turn signal stays lit. Right turn signal functions fine. 4 way stay on solid. Relay ????

Looks like it's the turn signal relay. It should be located on the drivers side under the dash to the left.
Can't see any other way the left light would be steady.
Hope this helps.

Brake/Signal Lights Problem.

Sounds like a ground problem to me. Bulbs are not getting there ground to complete the circuit so they backfed through the other bulbs.

Rear turn signal does not work

If the indicators on the dash are staying lit all the time, it is because you likely have a bad ground to one of your running lights, causing the running lights to ground through the turn signal circuits. This is often caused by either a bad socket assembly at one of the bulbs or an incorrect bulb is installed in one of the sockets. You need to check FRONT and REAR lights to see which one is not working correctly. Also check the running lights and marker lights on BOTH sides of the vehicle. There will be SOMETHING that will not look the same from one side to the other if the left side is working correctly and the right side is not. Please keep in mind that you cannot use the right REAR turn signal without also using the right FRONT turn signal. The problem could be at EITHER end.

My turn signals stopped working, i replaced the flasher relay with a generic relay from an auto parts store(three prong) and checked the fuses at the junction box. Still no turn signals. The front turn...

You can first of all check the universal type with a +B on the one side and the body grounded to give the output at the center. If this is tested on the left and right sides then the flasher unit can be used. Otherwise there are many models of this type that will work with +12.Try the electronic types.

Pull that bulb out and look closely at it, it'll probably have one of the filaments(Tungsten wires) broken and crossed over to the other one causing a short to power and/or the bottom of the bulb has had the 2 lead contacts melt together. In either case the bulb will need to be replaced. If this doesn't fix the problem please let me know so I can look into it further.
