Missing and plugs fouling

Runs fine on interstates and highways but when entering town or city in lower gears and at lower rpms coughs and fouls up. But if I start and run in town or city in lower gears and rpms, runs fine

Could be that's exactly the problem. I'd check the fuel filter first, cars with fuel filter problems often only exhibit problems like this by saying they can only go Xmph, and not over. While the filter may not be clogged enough to keep the car from running, a 13 year old car can through condensation develop rust in the tank, which could not only foul the filter, but foul it continuously after replacement. I once solved the problem with my motorhome by introducing a huge cannister filter, with a magnet to trap the rust, and a smaller fine filter just before the carburetor so I could tell the gas was flowing and the big cannister needed replacing if the flow diminished.

Other problems that may cause the same issue are timing problems, though most of those have gone the way of old spark gaps, and timing belts that need adjustment. But, if your car's timing works like the older cars, having the timing retarded or advanced could change the cycle just enough that it doesn't want to run right, the fuel just doesn't get enough time to burn completely, or begins to foul the plugs.

Another more modern problem is the coil, while capable of producing enough spark at low speeds, low rpm and therefore low gasoline consumption, boost the rpm, the speed, and push down on the gas and suddenly there's not enough juice to burn all of the gas, and the car coughs, sputters and behaves like it has no power.

One plug foul after 200 miles runs ruff

the next time it fouls check the plug when you take it out, if it is covered with oil then you may have a broken ring on the cylinder that is allowing oil to pass through to the combustion chamber and fouling the plug. Or the valves pay be letting oil drain in past the valve seats.

My 04 harley night train keeps fouling plugs left and right i richened the mixture with a 52 pilot jet. ran fine for awhile then fouled again could this be an electrical problem?

A #52 pilot is a bit on the rich side in my opinion. I usually use either a #48 or a #50 but each machine is a bit different and your location effects it as well. I wouldn't think an electical problem is the cause or you'd notice erratic engine performance prior to the plugs fouling such as misfiring, coughing or spitting back through the carb. How long are you running the enricher when cold starting the engine? This is the biggest reason I see for fouling plugs. People will start the engine with the enricher and allow the engine to run while they put their riding gear on, sometimes five minutes at full enrichement. This will foul the plugs quickly. The enricher uses a different fuel circuit than the normal running operation uses. It draws fuel directly from the float bowl and it's a very rich mixture. Try starting the bike with the enricher and once you can keep the engine running with the throttle, turn the enricher off. Use the throttle tension knob underneath the throttle to hold the throttle open enough to keep the engine running until it warms up.

Hi i have an lpg ldv convoy have just put new spark plugs and filter and oil in. runs fine but seems the cough some times on lpg in second gear??????

lpg doesent have as much octane as gas/petrol, and so will stall and hiccup more at lower revs, most people with lpg conversions run their car on gas when around town and switch to lpg when in on the highway. have you replaced the air filter as well?

Had to replace upper and lower intake gaskets because of water leak in the crossing water journal. when took apart the 1997 chevy blazer ran fine other then the leak.once i got it put back to gether truck...

You may have had some water migrate into the cylinder through one of the intake runners causing a spark plug to foul. You will need to remove the spark plugs to see which one is fouled.

1999 windstar 3.8 starts up miss then quits runs good after that

Does the miss quit or does the engine quit. If it misses for a while and then quits missing, you've probably got a fouled spark plug caused by oil fouling the plug after the engine sits a bit. The root problem is leaky valve seals. The quick fix is try new plugs.
