Valve clearances


With such a late model car I suspect you have hydraulic tappets which means the clearance is automatically adjusted when you start

Valve Clearances inlet and exhaust

Valve clearance specification when cold :
59 to 77deg F or 15 to 25deg C (engine temps)
Intake: 0.0063 to 0.0094 inch (0.16 to 0.24mm)
Exhaust: 0.0123to 0.0153 inch (0.31to 0.39mm)
you must remove the bucket,tappet , to change lash.
MIKE IT (that means a micrometer)
then buy shims or new buckets to fit. (generic answer)
the book says buy correct tappet after measuring, yours.
and it's out of range, and doing the math first.

that is it.

How do you adjust clutch?


On your bike it should be right there at the clutch lever. There should be a large round adjuster lock,screwed onto the actual adjuster. If it is too loose,..loosen the large round nut,and screw the small tube portion out (away from lever) untill it leaves a slight amount of play...about 1/8th of and inch, Then re-tighten the large round locknut. If its too tight,..loosen large locknuut,and screw small portion of adjuster in (towards lever) untill the correct slack is in the lever,then tighten the locknut.

I Need to adjust My clutch on 2005 Harley,Touring Bike


To adjust the clutch on your ultra, first find the clutch cable and follow it down until you find the rubber bellows cover over the clutch cable adjuster. Move the cover out of the way and loosen the locknut. Turn the cable adjuster inward to get as much slack as possible in the cable.

Now, remove the derby cover. In the center of the clutch assembly, you'll see an adjuster screw and locknut. Loosen the locknut. Turn the center screw inwards until you feel a resistance. Do not force the screw. Turn it inwards until you feel the resistance. Then back it back out 1/2 turn and lock the locknut. Replace the derby cover.

Go back to the cable adjuster and adjust it outwards until you have an 1/8" freeplay at the hand lever. Lock the locknut, replace the cover. You may have to tweak the adjuster just bit to get the engage point exactly where you want it.

How do I check my transmission fluid on my flhx 07 street glide it feels like its running a bit dry and its shifting a bit hard. Thank you in advance


Look on the right side of your bike. Find the clutch cable and follow it until it goes into the transmission. This is the clutch release cover. It should have a plug in it that takes a 3/8" Allen wrench or Hex key to remove. Check the level with the bike standing straight up. Keep the oil level between the two lines. Your bike came with H-D Syn3 20W50 oil. It takes 20-24 ounces of oil.

You may need to adjust your clutch to solve the hard shifting problem. Follow the clutch cable until you find the cable adjuster. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjuster inwards to get as much slack as you can.

Remove the derby cover. In the middle of the clutch assembly, there is an adjuster. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjuster inwards until you feel a resistance. Back the screw back out and turn it in again until you get the feel of it. You don't want to force the screw or you'll be disengaging the clutch. Go in just until you feel the resistance and then back off 1/2 turn. Lock the locknut down.

Adjust the cable adjuster back out until you have about 1/8" freeplay at the clutch hand lever. Lock the locknut, replace the adjuster cover, and the derby cover.

How do i adjust the valves on a 05 klx 125


I'm not 100% sure on this particular bike, but most late model hi-perf japanese bikes have shim adjustment. You can tell if you take the tappet cover off & the cams run straight ontop of the valves, If it's shims, you need to turn the motor until the cam lobes (pointy parts) face as opposite to the valves as possible (usually upwards) so the valve is completely shut, then use feeler gauges to me asure the gap between the valve tip & the cam. The valve springs can be compressed slightly (carefully) to let the shim on top (or underneath) the bucket be removed & replaced with the right thickness to give factory specs. Sometimes one shim from one valve can be used to make another valve correct, leaving less shims to buy. If not shims, should have a simple screw & locknut adjuster, same setup, just measure between valve & rocker, adjust to factory specs (or slightly smaller for more go)

Adjust the valves


older bikes use screw and locknut, so pop off the rocker cover, bring each cylinder to tdc, (with all the plugs out).you can do this by lifting your bike of the ground and turning the rear wheel while its in first gear. with a feeler gauge,make sure there is about .004" -.008" clearance between the tappet and the valve stem, exhaust and intake.if not sure about where the tdc is , its when both tappets are the loosest. any questions , mail me

i think you will find that like the 1200 there is no valve adjustment..well there is but not in the normal locknut screw adjustment that we are all familiar with,,they are a shimmed "no lash"hydraulic system,,you can buy the shims from your local honda dealer but they only come in 1mm steps i took 4 new ones to an engineer and got them taken down to 1/2 mm thickness this made a big difference,they are quite easy to do just take some time to get right,but once done they should do 50-60000km before needing looking at again..hope this helps

the cam uses screw and locknut adjustable rockers on it. this allow the valves to be adjusted by just loosening the lock nut and adjusting the screw to the specified clearance at top dead center compression. hope this helps. thank you.
