A service manual is a valuable tool with an aging bike. I suggest the dealer/mfr. or Clymer books. In the meantime, go to the library reference section...646 stacks should have what you need.

How to install choke cable on 400 Kodiak atv ?

Your information is on the ATV Forum

Throttle cable: remove the 3 screws on the right side of the carb, take off the cover, there is small rubber gasket (red) Don't lose it. you'll see the cable attached inside. move the mechanism forward like you're opening the throttle to get enough slack to unhook the cable.

Choke: on the other side of the carb, the choke cable screws in with a plastic nut (10 mm i think) unscrew with your hand, if its tight use pliers or wrench..its easy to unscrew it.

remove the cable and make or buy a new one ( depending on the fittings could use a pushbike brake cable and solder )

My 1993 suzuki gsf 400 bandit will only start if i spray starter fluid into the intake on the breather or if i jump it off !

The carburetor choke circuit is probably plugged up. Remove the carbs and thoroughly clean them making sure that the choke orifice are especially opened.

1996 sportsman 400 wont idle. Had the carb cleaned by a "mechanic" after the bike took off wide open and driver was injured. He said the float stuck and he "fixed" the problem. Now...

I have NEVER heard of a float sticking and causing that issue. Sounds to me like the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) on the right handlebar isn't or wasn't adjusted. There is a thumb nut on the throttle cable coming out of the ETC switch. Loosen the screw and turn the cable in or out to get 1/16 to 1/8 inch freeplay on the thumb throttle. Too loose and it won't idle, too tight and it will pull the throttle cable tight and rev engine. It could also be a carburetor issue if it runs with choke. Either the idle screw isn't adjusted or the pilot jet is plugged. There is a large thumb screw coming off the carburetor, turning clockwise will turn the idle up. Let me know if you need anything else, Daniel.

2003 honda 400 xr will not run unless the choke is wide open. any ideas?

The slow circuit in the carburetor is dirty or plugged up. You will need to take the carb off the bike, remove the bowl, and clean the slow jet and blow through the carb body to make sure it is not plugged full of dirt, corrosion, or gelled fuel. Unless the slow circuit is clear it will not idle.

How do you change the choke cable on a gsf 400 bandit

Once you remove the gas tank, it will be very obvious. Cable easily comes out of the thumb mechanism easily when you take it apart.

Carburetor?

Try cleaning the carbs. Does the engine run any better with the choke on? If so the carbs need cleaning.

Bike wont start if not started for a couple of weeks very hard to get going cranks over but wont fire

If, at any point, your bike has sat for more than about a year, the carburetors could have clogged jets. That means that the carbs will have to be disassembled and cleaned.
Otherwise, make sure the choke is operating fully and that there isn't any excess slack, or free play in the choke cable. Take out any excess free play by using the adjuster on the choke cable.

Have a 1982 Honda CB650SC NightHawk and had the carbs off and know the choke won't work.when you when you try to turn the choke off it's like the cable is

Check the routing of the choke cable and, basically, make sure it does not get kinked or pulled tight when the handlebars are turned from side to side. Then, remove any excess free play in the cable by turning the adjustment fitting that's part of the cable. You want it so that the choke mechanism on the carburetors begins to move as soon as the handlebar mounted choke lever is moved. If the cable is worn worn - or broken - replace it.

2003 Suszuki DRZ difficult to start.

Make sure you are using the choke - which is actually not a choke, but a fuel enrichment circuit in the carburetor. The lever is located down on the carburetor. Also, you can try draining the fuel from the carburetor float bowl. Sometimes, just enough water will collect in there to make it difficult to start when cold.
