Starting doesn't go through the ignition switch it goes through the starter solenoid and the ignition switch controls that solenoid only about 5 amps.

1981 Yamaha xj750 seca. How do I change the starter clutch

No You Should be able to remove the one way starter clutch by removing the right-hand side cover and also removing the starter you can Utube the procedure im pretty sure but its pretty basic to do once your inside the cover and also you may wanna drain the oil previously to removing the side cover so it doesn't drain out on the floor while your trying to get cover off also be careful because there are dowels that align the case to the engine and sumtimes they rust together :)

Where is the batterie

The battery is behind the side panel directly beneath the rider's seat and above the exhaust on the right hand side (as you are sat on the bike).

The panel is held on by a single allen bolt at the front and a couple of pegs that pass through rubber "O" rings. Remove the allen bolt at the front and tug the panel off to release the pins from the rubber retaining rings.

Hi there!

You will need to pull the elastic band and push down on the sides of the elastic band to loosen the hook that goes to the side. This will remove the band. Work on the other side if it doesnt come off. There's usually a fixed pivot on this band.

hope this helps!-
