I would suspect a damaged float in your carb. Probably has a leak in it and as a result, it 'sank' and will not shutd off when the bowl is full.

Replace the carb or rebuild with a kit that includes a new float and main valve.

How can I stop leak?

Hi Charlotte:
You'll need to determine the exact source of the leak:
- Failed hose? Replace it.
- Hose not tight on coupling? If there is enough slack, cut 1/2 " off end of hose and re-install.
- Hole in tank or coupling tube. Repair or replace.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

The needle and seat are bad in the carburetor. You need a tecumseh part 631021barterjoe_2.jpg and it might be recommended to get a service manual. They are inexpensive at a shop like www.arcolawn.com
good luck

Does the bowl have a drain screw that could be leaking? There may be a gasket there.
If it is leaking from the top flange, it sounds like the float is not stopping the gas.
Try taking the bowl off and holding the float up; does that stop the gas?
Do you have to push the float up beyond horizontal before the fuel stops?
If so, the plunger may have to be adjusted higher to reach the seat.

2 year old 19.5 hp Craftsman riding mower will not start, or will start, run for a few seconds, then stop.

Sounds like you might have a bad fuel pump or it is sucking air in the fuel sysyem.take a air hose and force air into gas tank and see if line is leaking fuel.if so change fuel line where it is leaking.

I have a Craftsman mower. Last year I had a similar problem with the mower stopping after running awhile. I noticed that the plastic gas tank was collapsing. The next time it began to stall, I immediately loosened the gas cap and it didn't stall. The vent holes in the cap had plugged up. Check this out.
I can't help you locate the fuel leak, although it sounds like the carburetor float is not stopping gas from flowing into the carburetor.

When you replace the needle valve you always need to replace the seat. You also may have a bad float in the carburetor.
