The idler jet in the carb is clogged, remove carb and disassemble and clean float bowl jets and clean out all passeges. be care full there are a lot of small parts. if your not sure you can do it, you might be able to take off the carb and have cleaned at your local shop and put it back on yourself. this way might save you money.

Kawasaki Ninja 250 running problem

This could be due to timing screw being incorrectly set
Locate gold timing screw on the carbrettta turn it clockwise only slightly till bike idles without choke on, Then when choke it on it should idle a touch higher.

My 1987 yamaha 80cc big wheel will not idle. would like to know how to adjust air mixture and idle screws?

well first try the choke if it runs good when you pull the choke even a little then you need less air, if it runs worse then you need less air, in is less air and out is more air thats the air mixture screw.
idle screw is self explanitory start turning it if it idles up then your turning it up if it idles down then you are idling down usually in is up.

My 2004 yz 250 starts and runs but cuts out when put under load. tired a new stator but no better.

Sounds like dirt in the carb, there are two sets of jets, one for idle one for load.
Strip and clean the carb.

Won't idle steadily

Check the rubber boot that joins the carby to the engine to often have seen the hose clamps over tightened therefore creating a split in the rubber letting to much air in giving the rough idle eventually you wont be able to start it at all (have a good thorough look inside an outside of boot doesnt take much)
