Your clutch might not be bad, did you recently chance your oil. if you used a synthetic oil that could be bad. bikes with wet clutches(non harley) cant usually use sythetic oils there to slippery and can burn up your clutch. adjust your cable so theres a 1/4" of play in your lever and leave it. if you change out the clutch dont use anything but the oem replacement plates just upgrade the springs to a heavy duty, this is a better and cheaper way to go. ebc is great stuff and ive never had a problem using there products. dont waste your money with kevlar clutches or anything other than oem, just an example my gsxr 1000 had 163 hp at the wheel using a stock clutch and never had a problem after putting 10,000 miles on it. also just a tip if your sitting at a light or at a stop get in the habbit of putting it in neutral and letting out the clutch this cuts down on spring wear and could ad some life to your clutch. hope this helps, ride safe and always wear your gear even in the no helmet states.

Rocket 3 engines are intended to run on synthetic oil so that is not an issue

  • Rob Wheeler Jan 31, 2014

It sounds like the clutch is faulty.yes there is an upgrade available which involves heavier clutch spring.

  • Rob Wheeler Jan 31, 2014

You have to use the correct synthetic oil however,it has to be for motorcycles.

if the clutch slips and car will not move in ALL gears.
the clutch is bad, or if a cable clutch, never setting free play on cable is the cause,... done 100s.
or if hydraulic actuated clutch pedal (im too lazy to look)
then if it fails the car can only moved if you start engine in gear.

i get in car,
i start engine in neutral. (did you) or start in gear with clutch to floor.?
i then select all gears, and release clutch and car will not move.
like that.... and win. (i can diagnose any clutch, ive wrecked many racing, so.... see all horrors) and fixed them by self. all.

that is bad clutch cable or actuator (slave or master cylinder)

2005 holden rodeo RA DX 2.4L ute recent power loss when driving, over revs when changing gears would i need a new clutch installed or cable tightened?

is this a stick shifted car?
the clutch slip is easy to detect, (m/t) the rpm rises, and speed not. (ive burned up many a clutch racing, so know them, and fixed them all self)
yes, adjust the clutch free play , if cable system it gets way off
as you drive, tighter and can cause slip as free play passes ZERO.

I have a 1999 suzuki marauder 800. Ive noticed that under load or heavy throtle that the clutch starts slipping. is there an adjustment i can make or do the clutches just need replaced all together. thanks...

as long as there is a little play on the clutch lever (1-2mm) then the clutch will probably need replacing. the cable can usually be adjusted at the lever end, and at the gearbox end, but given the age of the bike it is quite likely that the clutch need replacing. check for play on the cable first, but be prepared for a new clutch.
please feel free to ask again if you need fitting instructions.

Six gear on my 2007 street glide feels like it is slipping the rpm shoots up when i go to pass a car over 65 miles per hour. the 6th gear light also turns off when i accelerate the lights back up after i...

Adjust the clutch and see if it helps. Find the cable adjuster in the clutch cable and move the rubber boot up or down. Loosen the lock nut and turn the cable adjuster in to get as much slack in the cable as possible. Then, take the derby cover off. In the middle of the clutch is the clutch adjuster. Loosen the lock nut and turn the adjuster screw inwards until you feel a resistance. Do not force the screw or you'll bust your inner clutch hub. Back the screw off and turn it in several times to get the feel of it. Turn it in until you feel the resistance and then back off 1/2 turn. Tighten the lock nut and replace the derby cover. Then go back to the cable adjuster and turn the adjuster barrel outwards until you have about an 1/8 inch of freeplay. Tighten the lock nut and replace the rubber boot. See if that will help your problem. The gears cannot slip as your transmission is a constant mesh type design.

Good Luck

im curious as to how long the truck was sitting? what i believe is it has sat a while and the pressure plate has lost alot of its strength to press the clutch disk. i know you said it has 62000 miles but do you know how it was drove for those miles? just curious as to the driving type which could have burnt the clutch. the pressure plate and flywheel possibly also have surface rust if it has sat long enough to have a mouse nest. i hope this helps

The mechanic tells me my clutch is slipping and needs rreplacing 85,000 km. How do I know if this is reliable info? I feel nothing

TEst for slipping clutch is travel about 30 mph. press clutch, shift to 3rd, rev engine pretty high and release clutch, at the time of clutch release, floor throttle. If the engine continues to race, clutch not grabbing porperly, if the clutch works properly, the engine will be slowed and engauged.
You can always get a 2nd opinon from another shop.

the 85,000 mile coutch worn out issue dependes entirely on driving habits of the operators.

2000 suzuki rm 125 have done a complete rebuild on bike new cables new clutch new top end every thing new even down to a complete new bolt kit i used to race and know these bikes in and out but i am...

look for grooves or dents in the clutch basket, that would be holding the disks apart, also make sure the disks all face the same way out.

Can it be that after 11,000 miles the clutch is burned, bec i am feeling it slipping a bit?

It is possible, but really depends on how the bike was treated for those 11K miles. One thing you should check is that the clutch cable is properly adjusted. There should be some free-play at the clutch lever - see the owner's manual, but the first 1/4" or so of clutch lever movement should do nothing except take up slack out of the cable. Insufficient free play at the lever will cause the clutch to not engage fully, and slip.

Trany wont come out, feels spring loaded

OK so your problem is that if you can turn the box assy left and right a bit then yes its free and nothing holding it (that s what you think)
GET 2 big levers 1 either side and force it off as the thing thats holding you up is either its rusted up in the splines on the input shaft OR the sprigot bearing has come out on the input shaft but wont come past the clutch centre plate, so force is the answer thats all... and put the new clutch assy in the correct way around (centre plate only goes 1 way check the old one coming out if not sure.. haveagoodday.
Let me know how you get on if any more troubles
