Question about Yamaha Road Star Motorcycles

2 Answers

When I fill up my fuel tank, the fuel gauge goes to empty and fuel light blinks eight times. After several miles down the road, the gauge will finally go to the full mark and the light will stop blinking. The gauge will then work until I fill it up again. It seems like this started when I put a new battery in the bike, but this could just be coincidence.

I think that the problem you face is due to your fuel gauge more than the battery .
the fuel gauge at full tank can be running out of sensor due to faulty gauge mechanism . i would not worry too much as this is common even in cars .
My advise to you is not to over fill your tank and this will resolve your problem .

I have a 2015ford Taurus. the gas gauge and miles to empty moves on its own. I filled it up this morning and 30 minutes later it only had 3/4 tank and the miles to empty had fallen.

The sending unit on the fuel pump is bad. It sends a signal to the gage to tell the fuel level. The reason the mileage is moving is because the sending unit is miss reading the fuel level. The sending unit for the fuel level is in the fuel tank.

2003 Chevy S10 had fuel pump replaced. When fuel gauge shows slightly below half, the gauge falls to empty and low fuel lights blinks. What could be causing this?

hi,

sounds like the sending unit rheostat(sending unit) has a bad contact or break in the resistance wire. inside the tank theres a float attached to an arm that goes to a small rheostat, like a volume control on a stereo. the rheostat is sending a scratchy signal or no signal to the computer and your getting these readings. that part is inside the gas tank, the part usually comes integrated with the fuel pump. the gas tank has to be lowered to fix it.

Check engine light comes on and gas gauge goes from it current position to empty going down the road

It sounds like you have a bad wire or connection. Did you have the fuel pump changed? The mech may have been a little sloppy. I'd bet the problem is near the top of the gas tank where the pump is.

Gas gauge shows empty after fill up , then works ok after a few miles down the road

You most likely have a bad fuel level sensor in the fuel tank. This is quite common. It can also be verified in most cases by scanning the Body Control Module (BCM) for fault codes. Please note that this will not show up most of the time when scanning with a generic OBD code reader...They cannot access the body control module. Fault codes for this will show up in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) (accessable to generic OBD code readers) ONLY if it has failed during several trips in succession.

05 LR3 w/ 96,000 miles. Fuel Gauge dropped to empty on a full tank and gas light came on. Fuel Gauge is not reading at all anymore, just reads as empty. What parts do I need to fix this? Sender...

Repair is a major job involving dropping the fuel tank, a messy and dirty and dangerous job. It will take you at least one full Saturday to do this job if everything goes right and you have the proper parts. My free advice to you is to fill your tank every 200 miles and forget about the fuel gauge.

Just filled the gas tank in my 2006 f-350 turbo diesel super duty (6.0), started the truck and the guage showed a full tank. Drove down the road about 1/10 of a mile and the guage dropped to dead empty...

A loose connection on the sending unit could cause the problem but also moisture in the tank in cold weather could also be a factor in which i would add fuel line antifreeze to a full tank of fuel..........Hope this helps you out.

My Dad had a 1999 Silverado that did the same thing, it's a bad design. You wont run out but keep track of your miles, Then you know how far you can go.

Fuel Gauge does not register correctly.

chances are the float is stuck.
it works pretty much like a toilet tank
try to bounce the rear of the vehicle up and down when tank is middle full
this may free the floatting device and start the real reading
