Check with your Yamaha dealer and see if your bike qualifies for the updated Throttle Position Sensor. They issued a service bulletin to replace defective TPS's. They would give the symptom of idling on 2, not wanting to idle, stalling coming up to stop lights, etc.

  1. Ensure you have spark.
  2. Ensure you have fuel to the cylinders
  3. Ensure you have compression in the cylinders
If you are missing spark, check the connections to the distributor and to the crankshaft position sensor.
If you are missing fuel, verify that the fuel pump is operating.
If you are missing compression, you didn't do something right when you installed the timing chain or installed the head.

01 Kia sportage 4*4 cylinder 2 and 4 are missing. Shouldn't 1 and 3 be missing also since they are coming from 2 and 4?

it could be the ignition module that is affecting these 2 cylinders or it could be the ignition driver in the computer that is bad. however it can also be the coils not working on that half of the coil itself and only firing the one side.

Engine misfires on start up sometimes. Runs fine then starts missing again. It's usually after shut off and restart.

i think you may have a leaking injector or dribble into the cylinders, on start up the ecu should push x fuel into all cylinders to start but if one is not working properly it may cause this fault

I have a 2002 TrailBlazer with the straight 6,diognostic check said #3 cylinder was dead or misfiring, also map sensor showed up. #3 cylinder was misfiring, so to test the coil pack I swapped #3 coil pack...

did you replace only one spark plug? that can cause issues because of differences in resistances between cylinders. also, did the map code stay off after replacing

Need coil wiring diagram

Contact points cover open.

Left side points are for cylinders 1 and 4.
Right side points are for cylinders 2 and 3

Left side points have a White wire coming from it.
Right side points have a Black wire coming from it.

One coil runs two cylinders.

One coil runs cylinders 1 and 4.
One coil runs cylinders 2 and 3.

No matter what style of ignition coil you use, the Black wire will connect to the Points. Whatever other color of wire they use, connects to the ignition switch.

BUT, check the specifications for the coils you're going to install. Connect the Negative side to the points. The Positive side to the ignition switch.

The Orange wire with a White stripe, coming out of the harness of the Suzuki Gs550 is from the ignition switch. It goes to a splice connector, and from there goes to two wires. The wires split off into one wire for each coil.

There is a White wire on the coil, that is used for Cylinders 1 and 4.
There is a Black wire on the coil, that is used for Cylinders 2 and 3.
