You will probably need a seal puller and a flywheel puller

TRY INCREASING THE IDLING FROM 1.5 TO 2.5 RPM DURING THE START . CHECK YOUR SPARK PLUG AS IT MIGHT CONTAIN CARBON RESIDUES .

Why my 1971 250 dt only idles with choke on, stalls with choke off, idles high when started?

Idling high on start up sounds like a blown crank seal. Check for any oil around the seals on each end of the crankshaft, they should be bone dry. Replacing them doesn't require splitting the crank cases.

Cleaned carbs on 1989 Radian 600, now idles at 6-8K RPM. Please help.

Please check the following:
- Throttle control cable adjustment.
- Foreign matter in throttle plate.
- Fuel line clogged.
- Water contamination in fuel.
- Vacuum leaks in the intake manifold or at the carburetor.
- Carburetor base gasket or seal.
- Air/ fuel mixture adjustment.
- PCV valve.
- Valve clearance.

I have a 2005 harley FLHT that I have gpt the PO505 code. During cold starts the bike idles fine then after a restart it idles at 800 RPM. After driving for a good distance the idle will go back to 1000...

Hi Bjohnson16, popping, coughing, spitting, or backfiring through the carburator or induction module can be caused by air getting sucked in combustion chamber do bad intake seals leaking. Leaking exhaust gaskets can also be suspect. Remove air cleaner and backing plate, while engine is idling spray WD-40 or Brake Kleen around intake manifold to head area, if RPM's increase you have an intake leak and seals need to be replaced, also spark plugs will be burning whiter than normal. Good luck

If the bike starts up and the idle speed creeps to high revs all on its' own, this indicates an air leak somewhere between the center throat of the carb and the cylinder head. This is normally a rubber seal or rubber manifold that is old, hard and cracked. I am sure the carbs need to be cleaned, remounted and adjusted. This is a nightmare for the novice mechanic. Replace all rubber fittings and seals including hose fittings and hoses.

My Virago 750 starts up nicely idle is fine but

The rubber seals and fittings between the carbs and cylinder head get hard and brittle. They can develop small cracks and also loose the seal they had when new and pliable. This means that extra air gets into the air/fuel mix as it heads for the intake valves. The air that has not gone through the carbs leans the fuel mix and causes the high revs. The seals and fittings will need to be replaced. Dealers have parts in stock for 10 years. Your bike is 22 years old. Google yamaha virago 750 parts also Google vintage motorcycle parts. Babbitt's would be a good source if the '87 and '88 parts match up. They list an '88 and have all the parts in stock except one hose line.
Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part and/or the notation "Not Available" is in the description, the part is not in stock. www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrandand/parts.aspx

Yamaha DT 125 1986 - High Revs when idling

There have an air leak between the carb and the cylinder and/or the head and cylinder. Old hard / cracked rubber fittings and O rings are usually the problem. When extra air gets into the system it leans the fuel mix and the high idle is the result. It also means the engine runs hotter. Also, cracked or broken reeds can be a source.
