Question about 1992 Honda VT 1100 C Shadow

1 Answer

No power I checked my connections and they seem good. A couple of times the lights have come on for some reason. Then I try to start and solinoid just clicks. After that the power goes away. Is my solinoid the problem?

Check your battery. Volt check is ok but ... you should check with hydrometer. Below 10 volts ... give it a charge with a small charger. If you can take it to a auto parts place, they can probably advise you better.

Let me know if this helps ...

Just changed the starter solinoid on my ZZR250 now have no power thru the ignition. Its as dead as a doornail. Checked all fuses in fuse box, also checked the fuse in the solinoid, any ideas? Please

When you say no power through the ignition, do you mean the bike is completely dead with the ignition turned on? Nothing at all works, no lights, brake lights, indicators horn etc.?
If that is the case, then first check that the battery has a charge and the connections are all clean and tight.......and connected the right way round. My bike has a parking light position on the ignition switch and this allows the little parking lights to come on with the key removed. If yours has the same, see if that switches the light on. Do you have a permanent live outlet that you can test? If the battery has power and is connected properly and nothing lights up after doing these checks, then it is either a main fuse or ignition switch problem.

If you do have lights then at least the above is all ruled out and the problem now lies in the starting circuit. Is the kill switch set to run and if so is it working properly? By that, I mean even if it is in the starting position is it actually functioning properly and has clean contacts, all wires connected etc. The same goes for the start button.
At the solenoid there are 2 connections that you will have bolted onto when you changed it. Turn the ignition on and short across these 2 connections with a screwdriver momentarily and see if it spins the starter. If it does then the relay may be faulty. I will attach a youtube link that really explains everything in plain language and is by far the best tutorial I have come across for this type of problem.
Good luck with it all, Steve.

Why won't my car start? no lights interior/exterior.

It seems that the battery is incapable of holding a charge. You might try disconnecting the battery cables and try charging the battery again over night. Reconnect and see if anything works - if nothing works - it's time for a new battery.

Ive a derbi gpr 125 04 right when you press starter button its like it try,s to start but it,s fizzling i think its the starter solinoid its actually came out of its case so it could of got wet is this...

First, check all electrical connections are clean and tight including battery and earth connections. Bad connections get extremely hot and loose power, if water is involved could explain the fizzing noise. You could try to start it a couple of times, then feel the connections for excessive heat, CAUTION don't burn yourself !!!

there should be a fuseable link on the wires on the battery side for the solinoid they might be poped it sounds to me like your not getting power to the truck except the starter make shure all the wires are connected and check all the fuses

I have a jianshe 250 the starter switch was busted replaced it n new battery n solinoid i cant get fire to starter now help?have fire on one side solinoid but want go to other side ..

Have you checked the main fuse? Why did you change out the solenoid? If it was faulty then good enough reason, otherwise these bikes are finicky you need to replace with same type and same wiring. There is only a couple of types.
Try putting the old solenoid back in, if it isn't faulty and see if it starts.

My JohnDeere lights will come on but the starter is silent.I have checked to make sure the seat connection had not come apart and checked the 20 amp fuse too.

Have you checked to see if when you turn the key to start that you get the click of the starting solinoid engaging. If not then you need to check the safety switches for the blades and the seat. After you check those and still does not click, then it is time to check the solinoid. Test the solinoid by jumping power to the little terminal. There should be two big ones for power from battery to starter. There could be one or two little ones. If one little one jump power to the little one. If two little ones figure out which one is ground and which one gets the power and put power to the one that is not ground. If the solinoid does not click, bad solinoid, replace it (all this assumes that you have sufficient voltage on the battery to begin with). If solinoid engages but engine does not turn over double check battery connections, if good problem is battery. If you have a neighbor who has a voltmeter/multimeter ask them to check your battery voltage.

If really helpful, please rate.

My bike wont start rite, before this happend i was riding just fine then it would just shut off all of a sudden, hit the start button would start sometime after a couple tries(while still coasting) then...

Check all your wire connections . A loose wire in the ignition system could be a simple fix. You could also be dealing with a dirty or intermittent contact in the kill switch or ignition switch. If you are careful some switches can be carefully disassembled , cleaned, and reassembled. This can be a fiddly time consuming fix, but it also is inexpensive. Tear the bike apart and check all the wire connections again.

My kymco zing only kick starts. I have a question- is it normal for the rear light to come on when you turn the key before starting? it seems to me to be a design fault or the fault of the previous owner!...

Hi, I'd check that one of the brakelight switches isn't stuck on, as if it's the park light it should put the front one on as well, some bikes have the headlight/taillight hardwired so come on with ign. on. The starter should have a fuse, check it, if ok, follow the main wires from the starter motor to the solinoid & check power's getting through with a test light (an old globe with a length of wire will do), the solinoid should have one large power cable to it from batt. with full time power, another the same going to starter that get's power when start button's pressed & a smaller one which should get power when start button's pressed (activates solinoid). if it is getting power to the starter when button's pressed, starter probably needs new brushes or just a good clean out, hope this helps.

I never heard of a starter solonoid coming with shims. Did you replace the starter or starter solonoid?
