Question about 2001 Yamaha YZF-R6

I installed a new quality battery, charged it. Dies in one day

I installed a new quality battery, charged it properly, and the battery dies in one day.
I suspect that the diode is bad, but I cannot locate it. Does this sound reasonable?
I am looking to find out the location of the diode on a 2002 Yamaha YZF-06,it is a US Model.

I could not get a voltage reading on it while it runs, because I cannot get the battery charged. I have to wait till my son in law brings the battery charger over.
    I appreciate your response,
    Thank you very much.

What is the voltage while running?

  • Joe Stanton Apr 23, 2013

This System Should Not Drop Below 13 Volts With The Lights On. Check Voltage At The Battery. The Diodes Are Internal In The Solid State Voltage Regulator. Never Check For Voltage By Flashing (SHORTING) Across Battery Terminals. It Will Damage These Diodes. Always Use A Meter Or Test Light. It could be either your stator or your rectifier. You should check your AC output from your stator before replacing your rectifier. The rectifier is found bolted to the front side of the battery case.
Here is a link to a diagram to illustrate the location. The rectifier is #24.

I boost the battery, and it does hold a charge but only for a day or a day and a half at most. I'm not sure what could be causing this problem. The battery was purchased Last year brand new, but sat all...

if the battery holds the charge for a day or 2 wile you drive the car normally then you should check your alternator live the car 2 or 3 days after the battery was charged and check if it starts and run if it does run it another 2 or 3 days and see if the battery dies if it dies most likely your alternator is bad, your mechanic can test it with in 3 minutes to see if it is the alternator or the battery

Battery shows fully charged but but turns on then off won't stay on

Time for a new battery. If it shows fully charged, and dies within minutes = old, tired battery.

Visit your local electronics store for proper, quality replacement.

BATTERY DIES OUT IN 2-3 DAYS.

are you saying that you got this battery from autozone? I went thru three batteries in a week from autozone because the lot# was bad. It,'s quite possible that you have either a short that is draining the battery or that the alternator isnt charging properly. To do a fast check, start the car then remove the positive battery cable with the car running. If it stays running, theres a chance its ok. If it dies, It's most likely the alternator or the voltage regulator Diods. On most cars, the voltage regulator is built into the alternator. I would take it to autozone and have the charging system checked

Charging problem.. Wont charge battery

The instructions for installing a new alternator usually read to fully charge the battery (12.3 - 12.8 volt range). Otherwise, the alternator will be damaged when it initializes. I have seen some extreme damage result from installing a new alternator with a low-charge battery. The torque required to turn an alternator when damaged in this scenario is unbelieveable!
