How to share stater on 1985 Suzuki gs 700

To access the stator on your GS, you must remove the round engine cover which houses the charging stator. Before removing said cover, drain about a quart of oil from the crankcase. You may re-use this oil if you wish. The stator is secured by a large nut on the end of the crankshaft which may best be removed with the use of an impact wrench. The stator is cooled by running in engine oil. Some older bikes were prone to stator failures from excessive age and heat. If you plan to continue maintaining your bike , you may wish to shop around for a manual specific to this bike. These are available at an approximate cost of twenty dollars or less. It may prove very helpful to you. Ride Safe. Herb

The damping oil seals (dust seals) may just be worn and require replacement. If this is the case then £10-£15 for a pair and 2hours work (or £30-£40 for labour and parts if done by a mechanic).

Oil & filter change myself

First drain all the oil, "it's better to work with a slightly warmer engin so that the oil can easely drain.

On one side of the motor there will be a rondish cover with usualy 3 screws in " watch out for the orings" Take of the cover.

Take out the filter, * Be carefull for any springs and remember the way that you took it out*
Replace the filter with a new one from a dealer, " the best plase to get it"

Putting everything back in the reverse order.
Hope it helps
