At the following link you find the schematics of the R1100RS. I can hardly imagine that this is very odd from the R1100GT.

And in that case the 0Vdc is connected to the frame.

2000 M5 battery installation. How do you distingquish the difference between the positive and negative battery cables.

Hi, to be certain, you have to trace the cables. The negative cable will bolt directly to the engine casting or to the frame. The positive cable will go to a terminal on the starter solenoid or to a terminal on the fuse box.

On a battery for a 1994 BMW 530 Touring, where are the negative and positive poles located when battery is in place, under the rear seat?

Golden rule with batterys..

The Positive terminal is ALWAYS physically larger that the Negative.(ie larger battery post ) The Negative will be the EARTH connection ( bolted to car body and engine) There may be hard to see (-) or (+) on battery leads . Colours do not matter either as manufacturers vary on this !
Good Luck

I would like to fit a 6 gears BMW 1150rt gearbox on my 1100rt. Do you think it is possible ? That involve the gear indicator replacement as well i suppose. Thanks in advance for your advices. Gerard

No, I don't think it would be possible. the engine casings are different as well as the transmission housings.

The gear indicator is via a switch or pot on the transmission depending on year etc.

You would be money ahead to sell your 1100RT and upgrade to an 1150 or better still a 1200RT. There are lots of 1150RT's on the used market for sale at reasonable prices.

Good Luck!

Negative ground. To verify for yourself, look at the battery cables and the ground cable will go to a nearby place on the frame. The cable comes from the negative terminal, so the electrical system is negative ground.

Where do you hook up the jumper cables to 1994 740i to jump it off....without hooking it up to battery

Your batteries in the trunk right?

There should be a positive (red) post under your hood that should be surrounded by an inch of plastic. That is the positive connector that runs to your battery. Then connect the negative clamp anywhere on to the frame of the car where there's metal (not on the engine)
