Oil consumption on a 2008 Road King Classic with the 103 Big Bore

Ever since I purchased this bike, I have added up to a quart of oil about every 1500 miles. Any insight? It is not burning or leaking oil.

I just switched from a Softail Standard to a 2001 Road King Classic (FLHRCI). I need to service the bike but noticed the drain plug for the oil is not located in the same place on the frame as the...

The RK oil tank is on the bottom of the transmission. the drain plug is near the center of the oil tank. There is also a transmission drain on the side of the oil pan. Loosen the plug just enough to allow a little oil out to make sure you have the correct plug before you take it completely out. It take three quarts of oil with a filter change.

What is the differnce between the 5000 mile service and the 10000 mile service and how many quarts of oil it take

The 10K service usually requires the removal of the front end to inspect and lubricate the steering head bearings on the earlier models. I'm not completely sure on the later models.

The engine takes three quarts of oil, the primary takes 38-44 ounces of oil, and the transmission takes 20-24 ounces of oil.

You could have the dealership install the 103 CI kit if you like but no it didnt come from the factory with that engine in it already, only the CVO bikes such as the FLHRSE and FLHRSEI came with the 103 CI motor installed from the factory.

I need to kniow what type of oil to use in my 2001

Use 10w40 motor oil in the gear box. Don't use any synthetic oils, oil marked "EC", or oil with "special" additives. Stick with the major brands; Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mobil or Shell. If in a hot area like Texas or New Mexico go with 20w50.

How much oil do i need to add to my 02 road king, after i have drained all the old oil

after all the old oil has drained and the old filter has been removed. add 3.5 quarts of genuine H-D 20w50 to the oil tank. also add a few ounces of H-D 20w50 to the new oil filter and lightly coat the rubber gasket on the oil filter. Start the bike and let it warm up fully, then check your oil level with the bike on the kickstand. you may need to add another 1/4 of a quart.
