You may need to clean out your carb or do a rebuild remove the carb and take it to a bike shop to rebuild wont cost more than 50$ with the carbs removed or a little more with the bike will recomend a good fuel filter after this is done and plugs

Idles rough but run ok down the highway

i would take a voltmeter and check the idle air control motor make sure it is functioning sounds like it is dirty or malfunctioning try cleaning it it is dead smack right in the middle of your motor on top between the black tubes huge sorry cant think there name also use carb cleaner spray to clean it and shoot some in the throttle body may be dirty and will clean injectors any these can mess up idle but this should tell you where to start but the iac motor is high possabilty all does con trols idle

Rough idle. Has new plugswires and cap and rotor. Is smoother at highway speeds but is still rough

Sounds like an IAC motor( Idle Air Control) easy proof test is to bring it to Auto Zone or Advanced Auto and have them scan it for any codes, with a rough idle something should be set in the computer.
Once a code pulls up they can identify what it is where it is and how much it costs and if it is readily stocked.Thank you and have a great day!!!

19 hp. lawn tractor. blowback from the carb.

Well it sounds like the valves are not closing all the way. If you are not familiar with lapping valves, you will need to take it to a shop to get it done.
Good day.

Cant keep idle at one rpm

Many times you may also have to adjust the throttle needle as well for altitude or just to get it to run right. It may be the throttle cable having problems too.

Rough idle warm up or cold

The carb may be able to be rebuilt but those old *** carbs where not very good to start with. The Weber application is a great one and will last a very long time you can also get a kit for a holley if you want to get more performance. The engine in your truck will last forever as you already know but it will start leaking oil on the front side of the engine. When this happens the tech will try to replace the pan gasket but the problem will be the front main seal. When this happens have the tech change the timing chain at same time and you will save a fortune.
